Don’t do it. If you can get past the slighter thicker case of the SD43 you just wont wear your sub anymore. I put my sub on a Rubber B just to wear it to work out. I mean the SD43 is so good you won’t want to take it off. The proportions are perfect. A little big. A little heavy but almost the perfect dive watch for those over a 7 inch wrist. It’s only like 1.5mm longer then a sub so you won’t have any problems there. Buy the SD43 and flip the sub for a hulk and call it a day. Congratulations in advance and I welcome you to the SD43 club. Post a pic of the incoming. Lol

+1.

I had both and kept the SubC. For a small collection, they were too similar for me, and I preferred the versatility, smaller case size and lighter weight of the SubC. I moved the SD43 on.

For a larger collection, I think both can coexist quite happily.

I don't see the point of having both. Inevitably you are going to prefer one over the other and one will get worn and the other will sit in your safe.

I currently own a Hulk and a YG Submariner 116618LB and enjoy them but I wear my Seiko/Grand Seiko/Tudor divers more and enjoy them more, for now. I have been playing with watches for 30 years and in that time I have figured out what works for me. I have also found out that tastes change and life situations and I wear the watches I like. I will also buy/sell/trade a watch in a heartbeat should I want. If you want the SD43 and can afford it, add it to the collection and see how it compares to the Submariner. You will know in a month or two. Good luck and keep us posted.

What do you mean the cost of ownership? The cost of the watch or extra maintenance?

Should I buy an SD43 after buying a SubC?

I pick up my hulk Monday. So I’ll have the sub date, SD43, and the hulk. The sub date is my workout watch/beater. The Sad43 is my daily. And I guess the Hulk will be my date night/ casual dress watch. ;) My DJ41 diamond dial rhodium will be my dress watch for now until I get a Patek.

This I Don't recommend having a Sub date together with an SD43, unless you have a green sub or the Sub no date.

I have 2 16570's...one I wear and one I don't. One will stay with me long term, and one will eventually leave, though I know not which and know not when...

Also, I will (hopefully) have two YM's before too long: 16622 Platinum and 126622 Rhodium.

So no judgment here...you like what you like!

Please read my post from last week about how uncomfortable the SD43 is before buying one, I certainly would never recommend one to anyone, I've owned nearly all the Rolex models in recent years including the larger Dssd and never experienced any discomfort with any of the others, the pronounced caseback on the SD43 is a major design fault in my opinion

I couldn't disagree more. I find it very comfortable. I do like to feel a watch on my wrist, though. I want to know that I'm wearing it. The SD43 sits very happily on my wrist and doesn't sit high at all. Maybe it's all the flesh under it giving it a nice cushion.
Yes, it's a huge watch and looks ridiculous on small wrists but that's the case with all big watches.

That’s your personal experience with the reference but for others it’s Uber comfortable.

Ideally each individual has to be the judge for what works best on their wrist

I have the SD43. From a collection perspective I hope to add two submariners down the line to join the collection. I think the black sub date would be too similar, so I want to add the no date version and hopefully the next colour variant of the SS Sub date once existing Hulk gets replaced.
Above plan easier said than done.

My SD43 is as comfortable as my subs. I prefer the feel of it. It’s not too heavy but just enough where I know it’s there. It sinks in my wrist. No issues here.

If I had to choose one watch it would be the SD43. I’m about to pick up my Hulk on Monday so I’ll get back to you on that lol.

In my opinion, they are too similar unless you have a Hulk. I recently purchased a SD43 and really enjoy it. I have a sub, actually two (Hulk and Kermit) but they seem different enough to me since they have more than just black. I predict you won't wear or necessarily want the sub once you have the SD.

As far as comfort, opinions vary but my experience is the SD43 is as comfortable as a 6 digit sub, as long as a little extra weight isn't a drawback to you. I like the extra weight, reminds me of the Smurf I once had.

Go for it. I have a DSSD and an SD43, it's the same as a Sub and an SD43 just in the other direction.

Same combo here as well!
I also have the 14060m and SD4K, love them all, really I would be very hard pressed to choose only one of these.

I did the opposite, had the SD43 first, then bought the SubC.

Eventually, I felt the SD43 was just too large / heavy for daily wear and sold it.

The Zenith at 38mm, Daytona at 38.6mm and Sub at 40mm feel more comfortable on my 7 3/8" wrist.

You’ll want to sell the Sub if you get the SD43. It’s that perfect of a watch!!
Just my humble opinion which I share with some others.

If you get SD43 you will sell the SubC, that happen to me at least. Too similar and the SD43 have the X factor.

It's a bad idea because the SD43 is huge and the most uncomfortable Rolex I ever tried on. AD offered to sell me one in February I drove right there credit card in hand and thanked him but left without it. Fortunately I have the most comfortable Rolex I have ever experienced the GMT Master ll. I wore a Sub Date for 12 years prior to the GMT Master ll and that was not bad at all.
