Which one for the rest of your life?

Which one of these would you pick to wear for the rest of your life? I already have the SD4K but an opportunity has come up for a trade for the Datejust 41. What would you choose being as im a one watch man. What one do you think would age better as im a bit concerned how the Datejust would look in 20 years. I would love both but financially cant afford it. I know they are both very different watches but part of me does like the elegance of the two tone date just but I have also always had a soft spot for the SD4K, and Ive never seen one in the wild. Photos aren't mine by the way

Are you a bigger guy? The Deepsea could look right size wise compared to at DJ41.

Do you dress casually daily or do you have to wear super formal clothes? The Deepsea would probably be better in the former case while the DJ41 would be better in the latter case.

If those are the conditions, then for me, neither.

I personally think the DJ 41 is the perfect “one-watch” watch.

My "one watch" would be the Submariner, so out of those two I'd stick with the SD4K. Since the SD4K isn't made anymore, I would be careful selling it. Obviously, you can always pick up the most modern version of it, though.

The two tone DJ with yellow gold and champagne dial is obviously a classic, too. You'll always be able to pick that one up or some version of it. You may be able to pick up a classic 36mm DJ in that configuration for less money than you think.

SD4K is more timeless and you have a very short run watch.
the bling factor of the Datejust might wear off on you.

Thats another thing is what one is more versatile than the other. I only have small wrists so a Deepsea is out of the question. Its only between these two that im thinking as they are the only models im enjoying right now.

I wouldn’t get rid of a SD4K anytime soon. Especially for a Datejust. That particular Seadweller is special, and worth holding onto, in my opinion. My hunch is that the DJ41 is kind of, sort of hot right now because A.) it’s new and B.) the trickle down demand from the lack of SS Pro models.

But I do love, love, love the new Datejusts.

One watch has to be the datejust. Formal, informal, swim with it.. wear it anywhere. It fits wherever you go and whatever you do

IMO, the SD4K is more timeless. That version of the DJ, to me, looks a bit dated

As I recently told another forum friend, I honestly can't sea you dwelling on that issue for too long.

Between those two I’d pick the DJ41. I really like two tone, it makes it hard for me to wear my SS pieces now!

I would never in a million years trade a discontinued watch for a watch I can walk into any Rolex boutique and buy whenever I want.

If only one, stick with the Sea Dweller. I would always choose a professional model over a dress watch if only intending to own one.

This. A Rolex diver with black dial/bezel is timeless.

SD4K of the two. For me it’s the GMT Master II BLRO though.

SD4k without hesitation. Normally I'd say don't worry about future value etc., but it seems downright silly to trade a limited run, discontinued professional model for a TT datejust that you can find in virtually every AD in existence. Not to mention the SD4k is a beauty, and pretty much the perfect daily wearer. (All that said, I still think the DJ is a great watch, and just as well suited to daily wear.)

Between these 2 I’ll take the sea dweller. Will you really ever have one watch if you already have a sea dweller?

No contest if it was me - I'd keep the SD, much as I like the DJ.
