The Piano

So I play a bit of piano in my spare time, not very well I might add. Got out an old camcorder today and recorded myself for the first time. Hope you enjoy.

Oh both these songs are from the film 'The Piano' with Holly Hunter, written by Michael Nyman.

Very nice, Wes. I'm sitting in my comfy chair enjoying the light coming through the window right now. The music fits right in with my mood this Saturday morning.

Thanks guys, like to think I can play them better than that. It's amazing you press record on the camcorder and all you're thinking is don't mess up, don't mess up, and it doesn't help.

Strange watching and hearing yourself on tape, really helps point out where you are going wrong that you can't really hear when playing.

Thanks Carl and Dino. The only grade I ever took when I was younger was 4. Wish I had been pushed to do more or pushed myself. Haven't really improved in the last 15 or so years, it is difficult as an adult.

Learnt them from the books/sheet, and when you have played them 100 times it goes into memory.

Have you done any grades Dino? Practise, practise, practise.

I play by ear mainly, but I have passed all of my grades through to grade 8.. I havent read music for about 5 years.. I just play purely by ear..

So, can Wes play the piano whilst wearing his Rolex?

Yes. Beautifully. Thanks so much for posting this.

This.
Is it safe to wear a Rolex while playing piano?

Well done. I admire folks who can turn a musical instrument into an instrument of music. Sadly I cannot. I just don't have the knack but I appreciate the ability of those who do.

I really liked the film "The Piano." It was interesting, beautifully shot, excellent acting, but there was just something about it that didn't quite make sense, so I watched it again and half way through, it occurred to me that it was a dark comedy.

I started again and watched from that perspective and it made perfect sense and was even more enjoyable and humorous than it had been the first time around.

A very complex film.

A dark comedy? Wow - I didn't get that at all, but I saw it once a long time ago, when it first came out in the theaters. I'd like to see it again.

Yep I know I shouldn't be hard on myself Leo, but like anything you have a passion for you strive to be better, and when I see some great players on youtube and maybe in a bar/restaurant I want to be better. The playing in them vids is decent but I know certain areas are lacking, and can lead to frustration. I would compare it to golf trying to get your handicap into singles figure and get even better.

Thanks Lisa, yep I placed the camera in the 2nd vid for you guys. Know your audience. I thought the comments were gonna be more nice watch or what watch is it. I underestimated you guys. The piano and Datejust, perfect match.

Love the film Grady, I watched it again last year, so beautiful and obviously I love the music in it. Not sure I saw it as a comedy, and like most things it probably has more depth than I realise. My brain often shuts itself down when I plonk myself in front of the TV.

Perhaps, the better word is ironic.
