Explorer. That YM feels like an afterthought in design. Like what else could we do with the submariner.

The Yachtmaster II however seems to be a tool for the task of Regatta racing. Maybe it should be called the Regatta? Sorry for hijacking your post OP. To answer your question, my style is more Exp II (which should be called the CaveMaster or Spelunker), but that YM sure is beautiful. You can't make the wrong decision here, IMO. Best of luck getting and enjoying - be sure to post your incoming here. |

Explorer II, as it is a GMT in disguise.
I found the second time zone very handy during my recent trip to geneva 11AM in Geneva... 2AM in AZ

For me this isn’t even a question. I mean no offense to a YM owners, but it is very much a specialized timepiece, the EX II is much more useful (IMHO).

I have both and have never worn my Exp II yet. I haven’t even worn my Sub LV yet.
Always reach for the YM. However it does depend on what style/aesthetic you’re looking for. One is more utilitarian and the other sporty/elegant. |

Explorer 2 all the way, the YM is too close to a submariner for me.

Voted YM and in particular the slate dial.
It's a sporty piece and yet it can be dressed up. |

Have both. Love them both, but I’m a sucker for the Yachtmaster. That’s my experience , but totally go with the one that sings to you the most : )

Yachtmaster vs Explorer 2
Yachtmaster for me; Exp II is too large and the older one isn't that appealing!

I'm in the camp of Yacht-Master as I absolutely love the blue dial. I am in the luck position to already own the best Explorer II model though, the 40mm 16570 Polar!!!

I prefer the Explorer II in either white or black to the YM. I have owned YM's before and they are fine watches but I always go back to my Rolex Divers over them. The Explorer II is unique in design and appearance for me and they wear great.

It's hard to argue (well for me anyway) that there is a better looking watch in the Rolex line up. I love my 124060 because it’s a simple classic, dare I say I sometimes wish it had the character and flair of this lovely looking watch.

YM, the rhodium/slate with blue is the perfect beach watch. Ex2 polar is a winner too, can’t really go wrong with either.

I owned the slate YM and absolutely loved it. However, if given the choice I would go for the Explorer II. I find the complication more useful and since they have the same water resistance, I would pick the Explorer.

Have both and the Explorer gets a bit more wrist time, just due to it’s understated nature. I do really like YMs though and the blue face gets in the rotation quite often.

Prefer the more rugged look and feel of the Exp2. Dial color is a toss up.

The only YM I would vote for over the EXP2 would be one of the OF versions, WG being a yes and RG being a probably.

Yachtmaster for me... which is why I own one.
No offence to Exp2 owners, but personally I just can't get on with the handset on the current (and previous) Exp2. I just find them too thick and slightly clumsy-looking. That said, the current hands are a slight improvement over the older (almost identical) model's hands - the old "phantom" hands on the black dial version just looked odd to me as the phantom part was a different length on each hand, and I found the painted hands on the white dial model to be a bit "blobby". If the current Exp2 looked more like the 1655 then it'd be a different story, but as it stands, it's the YM for me.
