Surely he would have known the house of cards would fall eventually.

I can't decide whether a huge amount of effort and planning has gone into maintaining this scam or this is the ad hoc scheming of an addict. He clearly has an modus operandi though, same few excuses in each one of the transcripts I've seen.

Skeptical about the gambling addition... I will be skeptical about anything from here on out as he's obviously done so much lying... why stop now? This is sociopath like behaviour.

I totally agreed, gambling addiction is just another excuse.

NO, I don’t buy that.

Looks like Chris friends’ has started the damaged control by “forgiving” him as a gambler?

I havent followed this really closely but I've yet to see anyone "forgive" him for this because of the gambling claims I'd see it as more of an explanation, people are always looking for WHY, dont think anyone is claiming that any explanation for doing this makes the actions less serious.

Just a FYI to the friends /family still defending this.

A childhood friend of mine was convicted of £40,000 of fraud. He was exploiting vulnerable people to fuel a serious gambling addiction.

None of our peer group could believe the rumours, this was a extremely great dad, hugely religious, community spirited person. It made no sense whatsoever.

He plead guilty and admitted everything.

What I'm saying is the person you are reading about may bare no resemblance to the person you know but they are both one In the same.

If you want to support them do so, but choose the right means of support. Sometimes support isnt about fighting their corner. Its about giving them a kick up the arse and enabling them to do the right thing for the real victims. Let's not create an environment where the victims are reluctant to speak up.

This is true and they become absolute professionals at covering up/hiding it, often their family members have no idea too.

He's a compulsive liar. But it's pretty big coincidence to come up with an explanation that matches a rumour from way before all this started. And it does explain where all the money has gone. We are talking over $100k AUD missing and the amount of the gambling debt I heard was staggering. You don't want to be owing that kind of money to the wrong people.

How do you know the money has used to gambling debts etc?

Why are you defending this culprit? Are you one of his loyal friend?

That’s why I wrote “forgiving”, because now more people tend to believe his “gambling addiction” and “pitty” on him.

Please read thoroughly all the replies above.

Cheers

I don't see at all how that is defending him at all... looking for an explanation isn't defending him at all, it is completely different.

So you are one of those who believe that the culprit has a gambling addiction.

So we agree that this culprit is a pro SCAMMER, not a “gambling addict”, aren’t we?

In banking I had to deal with a number of clients, from the Average Joe to the highly respected Doctor, who got addicted to online and/or offline gambling - Them all hit rock bottom.

Official definition of gambling addiction in the EU:
The compulsive urge to gamble leads to repeated total financial losses. House and yard are used and lost, those affected are driven by the false belief that they can recover the losses. To explain their money problems, gambling addicts often invent lies. Illegal acts such as fraud are often used to raise the necessary money. Gambling has developed its own dynamic. The gamblers feel remotely controlled, have lost control and are in a dependency that they can no longer get out of without professional help

On a human level one can only wish his family and friends that he doesn't drag them into the abyss. Despite all the legal punishment he deserves, he obviously has a beautiful wife and kid. One can only hope he has no gambling debts with the wrong people.

He should face it - Not to satisfy the curiosity of this forum but to protect his family as a husband and father.

How is that defending him ? im lost at how you drew that conclusion from what this person posted.

It seems pretty evident from the pattern of behaviour that he is unlikely to be in possession of the funds. Having said that gambler, coke head, sex addict or whatever the case may be, doesnt excuse his behaviour.

I don't know. I'm trying to make sense of it. When bits of information comes out, and it fits with other bits of information you have, wouldn't you put 2+2 together?

I'm not defending him. Since when is trying to figure out what happened means defending him? He's scammed my friends. I've known he's a dodgy character for at least 2 years but nothing to this extent.

Gambling addiction or not, the man Scammed, stole, however you choose to title it, (at least) several people of money; I don’t feel sorry for him.

So many lies who would start believing anything now... would be a classic sympathy play.

I suspect we will never hear from him again though, surely no coming back from this.

Not quite true that it's his last remaining internet presence. He still has his Patreon page up. He's clearly still happy for his fans to give him money. He just wants no other contact from them

Do you know if that victim at least got their money back? I wonder if he got away passing someone a fake and hence got the confidence to keep trying it...

I've corrected myself. So far there is one only fake that we know of and that's the subject of this thread that brought the (horology) house down.

Another Daytona buyer was mentioned in this thread and that buyer never received watch or money. Unfortunately he hasn't come forward with details.

I've read the entire thread, including all the whatsapp conversations. Wow. The victims’ anxiety going through all these conversations is palpable, I feel bad for these guys.

If they tell the truth and at this point I have no reason to doubt their testimony, what a crafty little crook this is. Same pattern on all his interactions with the victims. Item lost, no tracking number, no insurance claim, all sorts of false excuses for repeated delays (bushfires, job, sickness, wife’s miscarriage), no longer has the money (gambling debts supposedly, yet another excuse?), needs to sell pieces to be able to refund, sends a replica knowingly.

Such a con artist by the looks of it. I hope everyone is made whole, ideally victims file a class action and prosecute him until the last penny plus fine, damages and interest.

This whole story makes me think twice before buying expensive pieces on the internet from a private individual no matter his reputation, considering this guy had a YT channel, FB group and seemed legit.
