Here's my take, I have always been a Rolex guy, I love my DSSD and would not trade it, but I like PAM's, why? Well PAM's are just different than a Rolex, it gives you a choice and I like being able to change a strap, I have not bought a PAM yet but am looking into a few choices, a 000, 005, or 177, but I have to get it at the right price.

i didnt like pam at first , and i dont get wire lugs at all ,,, but the pics are amazing and slowly but surely im growing to love some of the styles , but , before id buy one they would need to do a girls size , even a mid size pam would be 40mm ,,, but to each his own.

imho, pam are very unique distinctive watches, whether they appeal to each individual or not, i give them credit for being different. their styling is minimalist in many cases and i appreciate this a lot.

there excessive pricing & routine creation of limited editions and on occasion re-issuing more of the same limited editions is quite frankly a huge turnoff for me.

Why do people even bother reading the Panerai section if they are so adverse to the brand?

I have owned a dozen BNIB Rolex in my life. I used to wear a Rolex for everyone else. Now I wear a Panerai for me.

and there's lots of fish in the sea. I think part of the allure to Panerai is the strap component and the ability to personalize the watch with one. Yes, you can put a different strap on any watch, but not any watch can look exceptionally good on anything from a highly distressed leather to a worn denim. They're also big and bold yet with a certain refinement. They also have a neat heritage of their own.

I don't see why anyone who has a love for watches would limit themselves to one brand or even style. Heck, don't you want them all? :)

I found Rolex to be more of a "me too" watch... as in everyone else has one. 5 to 7 years ago Panerai was more rare and was more incognito in meetings than a Rolex which everyone would recognize. Sad though, Panerai is becoming the new cool me too watch.

I have owned many Rolexs but outside of vintage none are really "collectable" or special in any way, so I have sold my GMT 2 C, Sub Cs, Explorers each time knowing I could always pick one up down the road for the same price.

I love both brands. The rolex looks more like a jewelry "blingy" type of watch. Panerai is sporty looking.

Despite my appreciation for Panerai, I could never understand the 47mm Panerai watches. They look trendy and gimmicky.

Btw, Warvet, THANK YOU for your service!!!! ...Im sure its greatly appreciated by all of us in this forum - even if we are debating different brands, and poking some fun at your post.

I can assure you that I would have asked a similiar question in regards to some wis' love for Omegas a few years back....and now Im eating my words and going crazy over their 9300 movement(speedy and seamaster...)

The more involved I get in watches, the more I realize that most major brands have something interesting to offer...Some manufacturers you just have to look a little deeper. Of coure it helps to appreciate them more if you can afford a variety of brands.

I initially thought that Panerai would be a fad. Strapped on the 111 for the first time in a month or so and am feeling the Panerai love all over again.

A good deal of the fun is the strap thing. I'm leaning towards more casual straps as I don't really feel that on me at least PAMs are dressy enough to wear with a suit.

I hope to always have one in the rotation.

Lol thanks bud.... I have wanted a Cali dial for so long. And along the way just never picked up a 249, not sure why... So here it is, and I'm loving it (minus the strap)
