My SD43's story.

I'm a new Rolex owner. My first Rolex was Explorer 2 (216570) purchased 2 months ago, then SD43 a couple of weeks after.

The 216570 is a couple of years old and it's really flawless in function.

My SD43 is dated August 2018, so it’s practically brand new.

Was running -3 seconds a day. Really annoyed me, especially I hate slow regulated watches.

Date flip at 8 minutes past midnight... annoyed me too.

I tried to ignore both annoyances and give the watch some time to settle in.

Took it out of the safe one day, pulled the crown to set the time, it’s flipping the date not the time. Hmmm... tried to pull it out a bit more to adjust time, still flipping date!

Pushed crown back in and pulled it out again, STILL adjusting date not time!!!

After pushing it in and out 3 or 4 times, then it finally started turning the hands.

I wore the watch few hours then tried it again, STUCK ON DATE AGAIN!!!

Enough is enough. Off to RSC it went!

As a new Rolex owner, I’ve never dealt with Rolex Service Centers before... this watch has been well taken care of, never bumped or dropped or anything. really hoping for the best here...

Not an uncommon issue with 3235. Some have reported on xbiao.com, one of the biggest Chinese watch forums, saying their 3235 is less stable and accurate than 3135, and also gradually losing more time after a few months of ownership.

That 3135 is a workhorse. Mine's only two years old, but also on the dot. I have to say, I'm not terribly motivated to upgrade to the new movement.

My sympathies, OP. I hope RSC gets it straightened out, and that your SD43 is back and working fine in short order. Keep us posted.

My SD43's story.

Even with stringent quality control, there is still chances of lemon passing out.

That’s the time warranty will cover you.

Hope your watch get sorted out quickly.

Got my SD43 on 10/12, seems longer. Anyway, for first 5 days it was gaining time like 10-15 secs per day (really of), but it has since broken in a bit and has since lost 1 second over the entire span of 16 days. That’s damn good in my book.

I would suggest you keep it wound well - yes it’s an automatic, but just give it a few winds in the morning when you put it back on.

FWIW, my experience is, my SD43 is 11 mths old (worn on the wrist for a good 6 mths of that). initially was approx -2sec per day, still the same 11 mths later. Sorry to hear about your experience, i would be pissed as well but as others have said, the RSC will fix it

Mine has been worn daily for over a year and it is still the most accurate Rolex I've ever had at currently +1 second per week

Sucks to have to send it in so early in the honeymoon period, but rest assured it’ll come back ready to roll!

Just got mine back two weeks ago from Dallas RSC. It had dropped to -5 sec over a very short time which was concerning so I called them and they told me to send it to them. They had it for a month. Now it gains .5 sec/day and loses .5 sec/day if rested with crown up at night.Noticed that before I sent it the date changed at 12:10am. Now it changes at 12:02am. The crown aligns perfectly vertical when screwed in now. Very pleased. Fingers crossed that it stays consistent.

from my experience across many brands if something is going to happen it happens right away or not at all, as any flaw generally materializes pretty quickly. Its good and bad but at least for me after my watch is 6months + old then im pretty confidant its going to make it several more years to service.

Still averaging -1.1/day on mine. RSC will make it right. The new movement is terrific, you just got one with an issue unfortunately

This can happen. It’s certainly not normal. My experience has shown the movemnt to be the most accurate I have seen with above spec power reserve.

My SD43 is running right on the nose regulated by how I set it down after work. It's ~-1 crown up and ~+1 dial up.

My DD40 on the other hand is slow at around -1/day dial up and closer to about -2/day crown up.

+5 per day is still not good for this watch. It’s supposed to be -2/+2

Sorry to hear your experience OP. I have the same watch and have not had any issues...these things can happen sometimes but it's a great reference and will come back as though it just left the factory.

Thank you all for your comforting words.
I really hope RSC gets it right and makes me happier with this watch.

If my 216570 wasn’t so spot on, I would have lost so much trust in Rolex from the SD43.

Still as of yet, a lot of my confidence in Rolex will really depend on how well this goes.

As much as I like my Rolex, I can see quality might not be Rolex strong point but hopefully Dallas RSC can fix it without additional damage, from what I read avoid NY RSC if you can. Good luck.

I don’t think a one off incident is enough justification to call into question Rolex quality. Defects happen to even the most expensive and well made items. I’m sure Patek and AP have issues like this as well.

Out of curiosity:
1. I assume -3 sec/day and date flip at 12:08 aren't too unusual... but has anyone else experienced similar problem with crown getting stuck and not pulling out to 2nd position to adjust time?

2. If that was YOUR watch, would you have sent it in just because -3 spd? because flip at 12:08? because of the crown problem? Would anyone have not even sent it in at all even with the crown problem?

Too bad it had to happen to you. At least they should be able to take care of the other small issues of the date change and get it to run at -0+ if your lucky. Always heard Dallas was the best. Hope you get it back soon.
