Which do you consider the flagship of Rolex?

With the creation of Sky Dweller and the renewed interest in Daytona, I wondered how this poll will turn out.

I also vote the Day-Date. Yellow gold Day-Date with the Champagne sunburst dial will always be the Rolex flagship model in my mind. Instantly recognizable as Rolex......even by people who aren't watch enthusiasts.

I'd say the Day Date is the flagship.

Rolex seems to keep trying to make the Day Date their flagship model, but imho the market and collectors don't seem to agree with them. It is outdated, in precious metal, and there is no true ambassador for this piece (closest i can think of is Warren Buffet).

Level with me here before you get angry..first of all the "President" does not refer to the model, but to the bracelet, so if you say it's the President model, that is inaccurate..second, why would the average Joe or Jane aspire to a Day-Date for their ultimate Rolex when there is no incentive for him/her to do so? It's too expensive and available only in precious metal which is completely impractical, the day date function is nothing special (even a Valjoux 7750 has a day date..PLUS a chronograph), and it's trading at huge discounts in the secondary market. Again, Rolex is trying hard to make it the flagship, but the market does not really care, except for those who blindly follow Rolex's marketing.

I find it sad that this watch was Hans Wilsdorf's piece de resistance, but it seems that Rolex SA has not found a way to make this as cool and relevant as Mr. Wilsdorf would have wanted it to be. When Rolex produces them in steel, that's when the market will have some serious interest and premiums will be made, mark my words!

Right now the true flagship(s) imho are the Submariner and Daytona. Why? Because those are the Rolex that people actually know, and are models worn by people who actually were cool, not some pretentious people or old timers.

Is there a reason why you exclude GMT Master II from your list?

Personally , I think the Submariner put Rolex on the map truthfully.
My personal opinion and it's what turned me on to Rolex ...

I agree with above. Just to add, DD is outdated looking watch for "older" people. Consumer tend to move with more sporty, larger and non-precious metal watch.

Even though I personally prefer the Daytona and GMT - no question that the Day Date is the flagship.

how is the day date not a flagship because its outdated but you listed the sub which has not changed in decades?

Day Date. I prefer the Sky Dweller and hope one day to own one. The DD doesn't interest me. But credit where credit is due. DD towers over them all.
