Hype wise, nothing usurps the Daytona. With that said, the flagship Rolex is the Day Date.

I don't think hype or popularity should translate to flagship status. Take BMW for example, their flagship sedan is the 7 series, but the most hyped BMW is arguably a M3 or M4. A preowned 7 series trades at a nice discount while a preowned M3/M4 generally trades close to MSRP. Flagships are inherently less obtainable due to their MSRP, so demand is generally lower and depreciation should be expected (ever look at used Bentley prices?). The hyped cars/watches are generally more affordable and resultantly, higher in demand. When something's in demand and with limited supply, prices rise and the rest is history.

Well when you go to the Rolex website, the first reference you see is the Datejust.
It doesn't have the most tech nor are they the most expensive but it is likely the highest selling and the face of the brand at nearly sporting events.

I'd like to think the Submariner is the most iconic face of Rolex but the fluted bezel and stick dial is known the world over and no other brand uses the fluted bezel in such a way.

I voted Day Date. That doesn't mean it's my favorite. Submariner is. But Day Date is the Flagship of Rolex, no doubt.

RG Daytona for me, although I am a fan of the DD as well. I guess something about a 'tool' or 'sports' watch thats in precious metal gets me!

It seems maybe you didn’t understand the question.

You should add a big IMO on this one.....

Definitely not the case where I live in New York City. Day Date is Rolex’s heritage. The consumers don’t dictate the flagship product

Level with me here before you get angry..first of all the "President" does not refer to the model, but to the bracelet, so if you say it's the President model, that is inaccurate..second, why would the average Joe or Jane aspire to a Day-Date for their ultimate Rolex when there is no incentive for him/her to do so? It's too expensive and available only in precious metal which is completely impractical, the day date function is nothing special (even a Valjoux 7750 has a day date..PLUS a chronograph), and it's trading at huge discounts in the secondary market. Again, Rolex is trying hard to make it the flagship, but the market does not really care, except for those who blindly follow Rolex's marketing.

I find it sad that this watch was Hans Wilsdorf's piece de resistance, but it seems that Rolex SA has not found a way to make this as cool and relevant as Mr. Wilsdorf would have wanted it to be. When Rolex produces them in steel, that's when the market will have some serious interest and premiums will be made, mark my words!

Right now the true flagship(s) imho are the Submariner and Daytona. Why? Because those are the Rolex that people actually know, and are models worn by people who actually were cool, not some pretentious people or old timers.

Or maybe just because those are the watches you like best?

President in stainless steel is NEVER happening! And it never should.

Flagship: noun ~ meaning the most important thing owned or produced by an organization. It’s pretty hard to argue that against the Submariner.

A 6611 in SS ain’t making a comeback in this lifetime buddy. And I wouldn’t consider that “existing” since it’s not available to buy and unlikely anyone here or elsewhere will ever find one at auction, let alone know that 6 prototypes had a wink of existence 65+ years ago.

You’ve already got the pretentious part down, seems like you’re ready for a day date and can join the rest of us

Are we really going to count the Tridor or some prototypes from the 50’s just so we can play “Gotcha!”?

I would say the Sub and DJ are the most iconic and recognised. The Daytona may be the most popular. But the flagship is definitely the DD. Don't understand why the SkyD is even included in the conversation.

This comes up often, and often devolves quickly as members shout for their particular favorite model...inevitably denigrating other watches to promote theirs.

Good to see we're right on track.

Yeah the six prototypes they made in the 50’s should count.

I was torn between the Submariner and the Day-Date...tossed a coin and voted for Submariner.

Tough to choose just one:

Sub: The original flagship sports watch imo (even if not the first one made)
Day Date: The classic PM flagship
Sky D: Technical (movement) flagship
Daytona:The classic chronograph (and Rolex hype watch)
GMT Master: The modern classic (80's+) sports watch

I think because it's the most technically advanced movement (along with the YM2)

A flagship transports the Admiral of the Fleet - clearly its the Yacht-Master then
