Officer down spam

To call these posts spam is extremely disrespectful.

It's an open forum. Unless posts break rules, all members have the right to post as they see fit.

I focused my quote of your post on what are key points - and you captured my thinking in rank order.

1. Members are able to honor people, pets, milestones like birthdays and anniversaries - all types of memorializations. There is no need to change that IMHO.

2. I think that last week and this week saw increased number of Officer Down memorials because of incidents. In fact the true number YTD is down this year vs. last year per FBI stats:

3. Yes claiming “spam” is incendiary - as well as the emoji has similar condescending tone in Internet usage. It questions the intelligence of the subject matter or the thread poster.

4. Precisely - if anyone solely wants to discuss watches they needn’t click the Open Discussion section. Vacation picture threads, inflatable dolls, restaurants, food, etc. outnumber the memorial threads by an order of magnitude.

I'm pro-LE and served in the U.S. Army. I would have to agree there's a small degree of bias and we have members from around the world, meaning not everyone is interested in being updated on officer casualties in the U.S., as everyone could start posting the same for each country and then how do you justify where we draw the line. I sympathize with someone losing their life while protecting others, but there is more to that than just the LE community in the United States. Sorry if my opinion rubs anyone wrong. That's my .02 as a paying member.

i come here to read about watches, I never click on those threads, but still I wonder what the tragic loss of police officers has to do with the purpose of this forum...

To each ther own, but I'm sure there are other places better suited to those topics.

Where I live poeple get killed and kidnapped all the time, will I post that here? Nope, not watch related.

What profession do you work in that your coworkers get murdered at work?

I couldn't disagree more with people against this, JUST DON'T CLICK! Typical Americans now that don't like something need to make a stink over it, instead of just moving on!

There is no Forum agenda here, nor can I see how anybody could pick out a handful of threads and claim that there was.

Tim was posting these threads long before he became a moderator, and they are as appropriate as any other thread in the open-forum.

There are plenty of other threads that are far more annoying.

Open discussion forum is just that. For any appropriate subject within forum rules outside of watches. There is nothing inappropriate about "officer down" threads. Don't like them, don't click on them

Awareness is the first step on the road to change. Tim has made us aware and he has shone a light in a very dark place. Maybe his posts have helped in some way to bringing these numbers of deaths down.

Members seem to be saying they come here to read about watches. True. However, this is the "Open Discussion" section of the forum. If you want to read about watches, then don't click here unless if you're interested in the 124th thread about whether it's safe to wear your Rolex in Kalamazoo while on vacation.

I'm far more triggered by talks of man purses, skinny jeans, and other male fashion trends that guys admit to actually wearing and using and post about, more so than the blow up doll. Can we consolidate them into one "Men's Designer Looks" thread?

Open Discussion could be renamed "Officer Down" and a new section created for discussion of wallets, footwear and luggage.

Actually, why not have a separate memorial board?

I play hockey with at least 7 LE people and my neighbor across the street is a LE officer so I have no axe to grind here.

We all have our opinion and our rights to them.

And I have ZERO desire to own a Rolex Daytona so I stay out of those conversations as well.

To some of the comments... There may be legitimate issues related to policing. However, the officer down posts do not mention and have nothing to do with any of these issues.

To OP, chosing the correct words and using them in a respectful manner matters. Sadly, your post demonstrates neither. And if you had a point to make, your failure to do so in a polite and accurate manner, negated it.

They are absent any reference to any agenda and are merely statements fact. Indeed, if you read the officer down posts you will see that they are careful to avoid any of the current hot button trigger subjects associated with policing.

On the other hand, with all due respect, your post reeks of "agenda."

And the use of the dummy emoji was over the top in this context.

It’s not only run it’s course it’s run way off course.

And for those who say that my memorial threads are all about fallen police officers do some research. No one has ever had a problem with any of my threads on these tragic topics. Boston Firefighters, US Navy, Mt Rainier climbers, college massacre, HS football coach, train crash, USMC airplane crash, US Navy Destroyer collision.
