Female owns really nice watches...

So the wife and I were talking to a friend of hers and, naturally, I brought the subject around to watches. I pointed out that most people who liked watches were men. She exclaimed, no, she herself really liked watches and that she owns a bunch of really nice ones. She added that they all sat in a drawer because their batteries died. I bit my tongue and kept my mouth shut. The end.

LOL. :) my mother who is 82 years old has six watches all with dead batteries. She told me about getting new batteries and I told her I would get then replaced. Instead, and to her surprise I got her a nice Tissot leather strap and automatic. I said "mom no more batteries. She loves it and wears it everyday because she doesn't want it to stop running. ... LMAO. ..:)

Perhaps her criteria differed from yours, but not her passion?

Liking battery powered watches is only a disqualifier in the universe of TRF.

I have heard from retailers that Women generally prefer quartz watches.

I like mine. Always room in a Rolex collection for at least one accurate time piece. Timex it keeps on ticking:)

Agreed, no need to disqualify one's level of interest and passion only because their preference differs. After all, most high end watch makers all offer quartz movements for women's watches including Patek.

Well, wristwatches were originally a ladies accessory, back in the day, before WWI, so they've been wearing them longer than we have.

She must not have liked them too much if she didn’t bother to replace the batteries

A shot in the dark (whilst watching A Shot in the Dark on TCM) - her definition of nice watches did not comport with yours...

IMO you should have bit your fingers before you hit the post button on this one.

There is a tiny chance that the watches are all Grand Seiko. Still some hope.

Could also be AP or PP. Both offer a full quartz range.

I gave Carole the TT DJ I was wearing during our wedding. It annoys her that a watch that costs so much money, can't change the date at the end of the month correctly. Yeh, I know, I have tried to explain to her about perpetual calendars.

It annoys me that she also doesn't know how to change the date at the end of the month so she gives it to me. I bite my tongue, but would like to point out that she is a lot more expensive than any watch. (Joke).
