5164 Pusher Questions
1. It’s water resistant to 120m. Is it ok if the local time pusher is pressed under water?
2. Is it ok to change the date by using then local time pusher? For those of you who are more knowledgeable about the mechanics of the movements, can you think of a reason why it would be bad for the watch? Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Why would you need to press anything under water? Like sometimes I don't understand the people behind buying into the brand.....

I am not suggesting that anyone presses the pusher under water on purpose. If you read the original post, I asked in the passive tense “if the pusher is pressed...”. I think it’s pretty obvious that the question implies that the pusher is pressed unintentionally. Like you said why would anyone need to press anything under water (intentionally)? Will be compromised and you will definitely get condensation inside the movement.

For this specific reason i haven t bought any sports Patek with pushers,an accidental push is unavoidable ,then the stated water resistance isn t more than a nice feature of a water damaged watch.

I do find the pushers on my 64 quite hard to activate, so not too worried about it being done accidentally.

I’ve taken mine on my sea doo, in pools etc and never any issues. A risk I’m willing to take.

Thanks all for the responses. For those of you who own this model or any travel time model, do you have any thoughts on adjusting the date with the local time pusher? Any reason that might be bad for the movement or does anyone know for a fact that it doesn’t affect the movement?

At Baselworld in 2018 I asked that specific question more so for the chrono) and it was referred to that chappie who appears on all the videos. He said it is discouraged but there are gaskets and it should not impact the integrity of the watch. The disclaimer is to prevent claims from people who basically misuse the functionality. I wouldn't recommend unscrewing a submariner crown at 50m either

I’m sure it is fine. Once it is set, it should only have to be pressed eight times a year (seven on a leap year). That being said, I’d probably just advance the time 24 hours ahead on months with less than 31 days. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |

I should’ve been more specific in my question. I was wondering about changing the date multiple days. For example if you don’t wear it for about a week and then pick it up and need to adjust it by 7 days. Does the pin pusher have to be used, or can you adjust the date by pushing the local time adjuster?
One could also use the crown to change the time and date, but that could be time consuming if we’re talking several days. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

If you want, I will trade you for my 5167, which has no pushers. Straight up trade. I want to help you.

It’s a 5164 - who cares which date it’s set for if not needed for travel. Mine rests a lot too. Somethimes I use pusher or just pick up and go w/o changing date

I just cannot bring myself to submerge any Patek in water. Leave that for Rolex.
I get concerned when Patek recommends annual pressure testing if taking the watch in water. |
