Vintage YG Oyster Perpetual - replacement strap advice?
A special watch in my collection is a vintage YG Oyster Perpetual that my grandfather gave me a few years ago. The watch itself is in amazing condition and keeps time well. However, the original bracelet is missing - it's currently shown with a cheap replacement bracelet put on decades ago (one of those elastic metal ones). For awhile I was attached to keeping the watch exactly as it was given to me, but now I would like to get a new strap for it.
I've actually already taken it in to the local RSC (on Wilshire in LA). They've inspected the watch and told me they cannot assist in putting a new bracelet on it due to the age. I haven't had much success with researching online what type of bracelet should be paired with this style Rolex. I'm open to any insight on what should be paired with watch along with what may just look good with this watch. One idea that came to mind is a nice alligator strap -- something dark brown and not too shiny of a finish. That being said, I'm open to any recommendations of quality 3rd party straps that you think might pair well. Appreciate all of your assistance on this. Watch image below: |

The world of straps for your watch is good. It appears that it is a 34mm head with 19mm lugs. Here is a place with very good selection at various price points.
https://www.globalwatchband.com/ For years I like honey colored croc straps then moved to darker and darker brown, now have discovered black and how great it looks with a gold case with white/silver dial. I don't usually like thickly padded straps on watches like yours, however I wearing my current 18k non-date OP on a black ostrich strap from the above place and it has proved to be very attractive...even wearing the watch with jeans and casual wear. Dressed up, it looks as good as any Patek Philippe. |

As an update, I actually found a nice dark brown alligator strap this past weekend that I put on it for now. It's a slightly thicker strap, which I actually prefer over some of the thinner ones. Really loving the current look and feel like this new strap totally enhances the look of the watch. |
