Can't say whether the dial is original or not, but based on the photos, the hand looks very large and original!

As for the question ... The dial looks good, and if it was refinished it was well done. The difference in font compared to older versions could come down to variations of the dial from Rolex, which happens with all models. Fonts can be different depending on the years/serial numbers. Another possibility is that this is a service replacement dial before the switch to luminova? My suggestion is to pore over the details of as many 1680 nipple dials as possible to see if you can find a definitive answer. Good luck! |

IMO that shade of blue doesn't correspond with the 1680.

The shade of blue seems to match that of the dial in the full watch pictures I found online... the ft seems to be the same also as that dial.

Certain batches of tritium will still have some glow left, albeit faint and brief; others won't have any glow at all. It depends on the year. However, if this dial has a brighter/longer glow, it's possible it's a service dial with the tritium marking on the bottom of the dial. There are luminova replacement dials that have this marking, as strange as it seems.
One test that might clear things up: Shine a blacklight on the dial. Usually tritium will be whiter in color under the light. Luminova should be greenish. |

It is white in color under uv light. Would a giger counter register the tritium? Haha
