5513 dial question
Hi guys, have any of you ever seen this happen to a dial? I'm talking about the seemly crackle type lines on the surface of the dial.

It looks like some I've seen wherethe paint on the dial has cracked. My concern would be water had at some point gotten inside the case. The 168000 sometimes experienced this because of a flaw in the paint mixture, but I've never seen it to that extent in a 5513. |

I'll get a better picture, I'll try to focus on dial and not the crystal and get a better shot of it. BTW, not the inside of the crystal, it is on the dial, anyone remember CharlieJ anyway bought off him with the story that it's the dial and certain manufactures of that era had problems like I have with their dial cracking (crackle appearance)

I've seen something similar to that on some vintage models at the antique show here in town in the past. They didn't seem as bad as that dial, but it did look look like cracking paint on the dial

Hi Earl, my 5512 dial did this. It started when the watch was about 30 years old i.e. 1996ish. The one and only moisture intrusion (due to a crystal crack) happened in the mid 70's. I immediately had the leak fixed and the watch pressure tested at RSC NYC.
It got so bad, I had the dial relaced in '99. Perhaps there was another, later moisture intrusion I ever recognized. I sent the watch to RSC Dallas last week for routine service/beautification. This is it's first visit to a RSC since '74. Haven't heard from them yet but I suspect they'll tell me if there's any other evidence of past leaks.
