The card won't tell you the year of production, only the date of sale. G serials are generally considered to have begun appearing in 2010, so a G5 might have been sold a year or two later.

The G serials were not seen in the market place until after the random serials came out in 2010. So, a G serial will be late 2010 and into 2014 with most of them in the 2011 to 2012 time-frame. They were the last serial release and made concurrently with the first releases of randoms. As with any serial, you cannot know exactly when it was "made", only an approximation of when it entered the market.

With random serial you cannot know either unless the inside clasp with rolex is shiny instead of matte. Then it is 2015 or later.

Rolex Submariner G Series ?
I had a G Serial Sub C that I purchased in Sept 2011. It didn't ever see the case so I picked it up in the coffin. I don't know how long Rolex had it but I would bet not long after production. At that time there were random and G serial numbers being released simultaneously.

That chart is meaningless and misleading..
Charts are guesses made up by enthusiasts, they are not authentic data. That one would mislead an enthusiast into thinking the numbers on it are true release information; they are not. Plus, it's wrong, there were no new serial prefix releases in 2009. G serials were not seen until after randoms were released in late 2010.. We were all here on TRF watching and discussing that fact !!

Is there a chart Larry (or others) that you would recommend as, at least slightly, more accurate? It would be great to have this on hand. Regardless, it sounds like any chart would, at best, show when serials were introduced for sale as opposed to when the watches were made.
