You mean the Reverso calendar? Absolutely not.

Reverso is in the league of its own. I may not be the "tool" watch so many dream about, but it is a solid timepiece, a notch above Explorer that's for sure.

I have a 1954 14ct JLC Powermatic that was recently serviced by JLC at the ludicrous cost of £1200.00

I also have a 39mm Explorer and the Explorer is the better watch by a mile.

I would happily make that trade if it includes a little cash coming your way. JLCs are expensive to service as Mick P pointed out. I'm also not much of a JLC fan.

I want to be a Reverso fan as they are very cool iconic watches. Unfortunately, I am always sorely disappointed when I actually try them on in the flesh. That said I love my Explorer and would be hard pressed to part with it. So the choice is yours!

You make a great point about disappointment when trying on a watch you love in pictures. There is no substitute for a live look before you buy.

I waited 30 years to acquire my grail watch, the GMT2 Pepsi. Prices for Rolex vs. other brands like Omega was one factor of course. But another was my misconception that a 40mm watch would be too small on my 7 3/4" wrist. Never tried one on in person - no local ADs near me. I finally said what the hell and dove in. Misconceptions squashed.

I would say maybe!

Used JLCs have a larger drop in value than a used rolex. So based on the current value for your watch and the probable current value of the 214270 explorer, IMO I would think it would be a square trade...but would try for some cash ($500-$1,000).

The JLCs are such a niche that it is a harder used watch sale without a good discount to almost force the buyer to jump on it.

Trade JLC INTO Rolex while you still can.

JLC are pillowy soft right now and the market is getting softer....if the market deteriorates any further, that trade offer may become a PASS.

While the Explorer isn't the most desirable reference in the sport lineup, it's still a ROLEX and that means it's always liquid and easy to move if need be...

The watch market is soft in general for the exception of popular Rolex and Patek models. ALS, JLC, GO, Panerai, Omega, Zenith (and so on) and micro brands take a significant hit on re-sell. It does not mean that those brands produce sub par watches. Also, if a person who is really concerned about the re-sell value is probably trying to buy a watch that is a bit too expensive.

I won my JLC Powermatic in a game of poker sometime in the early 1990s. I stood £500 against it but fortunately won.

A few years ago, a local dealer offered me £1800 for it as a straight purchase. Obviously he would have sold it on for the same price plus a margin.

Today the price has slumped and a realistic price is around £1200.

Therefore I have lost money on the watch but some day it will rise again.

The advice of hold on is good.
