Reading through these....why do so many hate on Breitling? I have both Rolex and Breitling, so just wondering why many are saying it is a mistake.

Resale value is pretty poor.

Hate is quite a strong word, maybe dislike is better.

Being a pilot myself, I just find it amusing that Breitling rely so heavily on the aviation theme to sell their watches. It seems, to me at least, that without the superficial aviation theme they employ to move pieces, the watches themselves probably wouldn't sell half as well.

It should also be remembered, that the decision by Swatch group to stop providing ETA movements to the wider watch community, was, in part, due to the conclusion made by the Swatch CEO that certain manufactures, Breitling being one, were guilty of charging top dollar for watches that contained re-badged, low end ETA movements. He felt this was bad for the Swiss Watch making industry as a whole as it was poor value for the customer.

He's not wrong there.

Despite that, Breitling make some nice pieces, but the only watch they produce which I may have considered buying is their Super Ocean.

As for the pilot / aviation themed watches they produce, with one exception, they just don't make timeless watches to my mind to the point I personally see their aviation themed watches as mostly gimmicks.

No offence intended.

Not buying a Rolex at the base exchange or through the AAFES( Army and Air Force Exchange) catalog during my time in the service. Talking mid 1980s here, they had practically every model available to order and of course NO TAX.

I literally just did it! Bought a Speedmaster pro in June. Didn't sing to me. Sold it 30 minutes ago for a $900 loss.
The money I got is going to my ss blue skydweller in a few months so I'm not stressing it too much. Lol.

My dad wore the same old Seiko watch everyday for at least 39 years. However, I regret that I didn't replace that old watch for him with a Rolex before he passed away. He deserved it. He went without new things for so many years so that his kids had every chance to succeed.

What's the dumbest move you've made while collecting.

Same here. Mine is shorter haul from 2009-2011. After which, decided to sold them and to focus on Rolex and Patek and never regretted.

I was at an AD that I have an amazing relationship with. 4 1/2 years ago, I had the opportunity to purchase a 116610LV for ~22% off and I stupidly decided to get the 116710LN instead. Now I'm going to get the Hulk, but there's no more discount and the price has gone way up.

My biggest regret was purchasing an Omega Globemaster at auction. It was a good price, but I'd never tried it on and found it very uncomfortable. The auction house also screwed up and had the completely wrong box, causing quite a few headaches and a strong dislike for the watch. Thankfully I was able to flip and make a couple hundred dollars on it anyway.

Other than my 2 Seikos, I'm sticking to Rolex/Tudor from now on (the Tag in my signature was inherited from my Grandfather).

I have learned quite a few lessons

1. Joining TRF
2. Buying a watch without trying it on
3. Buying into hype. Just cause a watch is hard to get doesn't mean it's the watch for you.
4. Buying a watch that everyone wants to think your cool but in reality you don't care for it cause not your style
5. Always buy the seller and not the watch on TRF
6. Don't just buy a watch to satisfy itch. Save and buy what you want.
7. Besides Patek and Rolex, if you buy any other brand at retail expect to get killed on resale if you decide to flip it

Ok I think that's it

I did the same.

Traded my pelagos blue straight up for one and disliked it. The speedmaster pro moonwatch was not a favorite of mine and sold it 2 weeks later and bought a black pelagos.
