Easy to say when you've got the 5524! Some of us are hungry and need to eat! Line em up, I'll be bending the wrist and taking the prize

As much as I'd have liked a shot at one, I think in my heart of hearts, now that I see it on the wrist, it's too large for my tastes. The empty real estate on the dial really shows up on the wrist. I get that it's a pilots watch but the proportions don't do it for me. I absolutely love the blue on calf though.

Bigger is better! Finally Patek making some watches for the rest of us. Love love love the size! But Im 6'4" 225 pounds. I like me some heft on my watch. 42mm is perfect. I hope they keep making more.

Wonder what the reaction will be from Patek and my AD if I don't like it on and decide to sell it. It is, after all, quite a leap of faith to buy a $21K+ watch sight unseen.

A little concerned...I've never done anything like this before.

I wouldn't hide the fact if it came up in conversation with my AD. Otherwise, I'm not sure unless it was sent in for warranty work or something.

I love the size and the fact that it commemorates the Patek event that I really enjoyed.

If only they had added a date...or something....or anything!!! So much blank space...
I think it might just be too plain for me to really enjoy wearing. Hard to tell until I spend some time with it.

Did your AD saying you're getting one? $22k is not a lot of $$...so if you don't like it dump it.

PS - I've never seen any Patek or other watch in person before buying. Not unusual to me--YMMV.

LOL only on TRF!

My AD tells me no allocation and I was trying to be positive and think of all the $$$ I just saved. Way to really ruin it for me!!

A date would have been a disaster. The movement is too small for the case and it would have had 15400 syndrome.

This is simplicity at a fair price in steel. Would you like another steel Calatrava? Just go to the boutique, oh wait. Never mind

In keeping with the New York theme they could have written "Take the A Train" in the lower part of the dial.

Not a leap of faith at all IMO. I've bought all my Pateks I have owned sight unseen. 5235, 5711, 3940G-029. A majority of sought after references are usually spoken for before they ever arrive. If you are worried about the reaction then try it on when it arrives at the AD and if not for you kindly tell them you don't like it and I am sure the next guy on the list will gladly take it

If it's really an application piece and it's issued with your name on the papers you might be wrecking your chances of getting another if you don't pick it up and the new owner tries to register it. Hard to say if Patek really cares or not. Obviously it happens as I was offered a piece I would have expected was originally for another buyer.

Plenty of application watches are sold (or offered for sale) shortly after delivery. You can look at the number of 5131's, 40th Anniversary Nautilus and others that are offered for sale on the secondary market.

What happens to the collectors who repeatedly do this? IMO it really depends on how much clout these collectors have with Patek. If you spend hundreds of thousands (or millions) of $/€/£ on Patek watches annually, will Patek do anything to alienate these big customers?

They will put a contract out on you like Rolex... I mean make you sign a contract to not resell like UK ADs.

Guys who spend big on Patek probably aren't flipping watches to make a few thousand.

Generally I have found that Buyers contact the original AD to verify that it was purchased from them

I absolutely agree that people who spend a lot on Pateks are less likely to flip a watch for pure profit.

However IMO if ones of these collectors sold a 5131 or 5711/1P within 6 months, Patek is less likely to take any action. Hypothetically if a Patek collector with 100+ watches decides he is not happy with Patek and wants to sell everything and start collecting RM instead, it would be a loss for Patek.

I do agree that those who are flipping watches for a profit are typically not huge Patek collectors who get invited to private showings at Basel.

Common sense says that of course PP would be more lenient on their top collectors! Who says this isn't a way to thank them for their patronage by making a quick buck for them!! As a side issue I was told that the big guys it's less about IF they getting a LE but WHEN!!! It seems that who gets it before who is the true determinant of who is valued!!

People get their pee in a froth over lots of things and get petulant and move on to other brands. Sure we have all done it as some stage!! Don't see it as a huge loss....there is always someone else in the queue
