Advice about buying 116610LN...in Hawaii?

I'm graduating from my studies this year and want to mark the occasion with an 116610LN.

I went into an AD in my hometown this morning and they said the wait would be 2-3 years and cost aud10,800 (usd8,300). I am travelling to Hawaii with the family in November and wondered whether I'd be better off buying it over there.

I see there's a boutique in Waikiki and a couple of ADs (Baron and Leeds and Ben Bridge Jeweller) and a second hand shop http://honolulutime.com/ that seems respected. I've messaged all of them about price, tax and availability.

I've never bought anything as expensive overseas before...can I buy duty free or get tax back at the airport or something? I'll be flying in and out of Hawaii back to Melbourne, Australia directly with no other destinations.

Could I wear the watch home and post the box and papers to a friend's address to avoid paying tax on coming back to Australia?

Would I be better off buying from one of the trusted sellers here like DavidSW (has one for usd7675 atm) and have them ship it to me while I'm over there? Jomashop has them for usd8195.

Any advice? I don't want to wait 3 years!!!

No advantage in waiting for Hawaii...

Thanks mate. I wondered about getting slugged 10% by Aussie customs if he ships it to me here

Just checked and there won't be any import taxes apparently. However, I've found someone over there that is a fair bit cheaper.

Just reach out to David at Honolulu Time in advance and he will hook you up. Should be really easy and you can collect in person.

Yeah thanks, mate. I emailed him today and he already got back to me. Seems a great bloke. Quoted me $6800, which is already cheaper than David SW. I'm wondering if there will be tax on top of that.

I've never bought a luxury watch before; is this considered grey market and there won't be the Rolex warranty with it?

Thanks, mate. I'll definitely be posting pics everywhere. It's great motivation to get me them through my final year of medical school

Thank you. It was 18 months on the waiting list. There were two people ahead of me but they were both overseas so their loss is my gain :)
