Luck not on my side

Living in Melbourne and been waiting for a BLNR for close to 9 months. Currently on holidays in Europe and miss out on one by 3 hours in Barcelona! Not happy at all. Has any one had a similar experience trying to obtain a watch?

I've been noticing from people that they're getting a little tough to find. I guess it depends where you are though, as with anything.

I hope you find one soon!

Lots of Rolex boutiques in and around Passeig de Gracia in Barcelona. Keep trying! You might score.

Edited to add: You have GOT to check out Rabat on Passeig de Gracia, 94. Spectacular store. Even has a bar on the ground floor near the back. I was treated quite nice when I was there a few weeks ago. Highly recommend. You'll be impressed. They don't carry Rolex, but they have everything else (including Tudor, oddly enough).

Even though availability in the UK is shocking I've always been really, really lucky. Sorry

Question?

Why can't people in those hard to find product places just purchase from one of our trusted sellers and have it shipped?

Indeed mostly tax. I did not expect to have such a hard time finding normal SS Submariners in stock where I live. ADs didn't event want to add me to a waiting list on the 3 or 4 I tried. I found one who did but it will still take 1-2 months.

Importing has the problem of never knowing how much they're going to tax you. It's the usual VAT fees (which are clear) but there are some fees that are charge on top of that (They charge you for the effort of charging you tax) and then the shipping itself and insurance is also higher. Plus the risk of currency fluctuations.

TS are still selling a BNIB BLNR at around $8900+. If OP is traveling to Europe, I think he will be able to buy one cheaper without tax. That's if he is able to find one, of course.

Iconic seems to have one in stock at the time I'm posting this, for about $10K in USD. But I have no idea if it's easy to recover the VAT being a non-EU resident. If that is possible, it should make it lighter (UK VAT is +20% if I have it right).

That is an amazing time to wait for a BLNR. Mine came in the day after I ordered it. I paid full list price though.

There is always a wait for certain Rolexes. I've learned to live with it.

I too am on the hunt for a BLNR though my wait's only been a month and I'm enjoying taking trips to AD's around the country and chatting watches.

You've already been given one answer: cost. In fact the BLNR can be had BNIB from grey dealers here for less than it would cost to ship a watch from anywhere else in the world. So why not do just that you ask?

Personally the answers are 1) principle - I'm not paying over MRSP for a grey watch, regardless of the price. 2) I want to buy from an AD. I want the new watch buying experience. The 100% guarantee of provenance. The privilege of being the first person to put a blemish on the case. I realise some people will think that's weird and won't get it, but that's fine.

Plenty of BLNR here in Miami. Thing is no discounts and about $9509 with tax. For that buy new or pre owned here from trusted seller and save money. I mean that's what I did back in April 2017.

When I was traveling in Europe and the DJ 42 was just coming out I emailed all thr AD's where I was headed. Explained to them I was traveling and would be in their city on X day. One of the AD's was very joce and accommodating and they had the watch ready whe I arrived. Saved 1100 US with the tax back.

They are out there. Fraser Hart in MK got me one within about 14 days of registering my interest. I think I was pretty lucky, but also know that spending time in the shop, looking at alternatives and showing proper interest helped to speed things up. Good luck in finding one.

I bought my BLRO from Orologeria Bodoni in Turin last year. They were a pleasure to deal with. Might be worth a phone call.

I got lucky the other day at the Zurich airport. Try and pass by through there if you ever have the chance. One time, they even had two on display!

Just buy from a trusted seller on here. Or fly to Miami and there you will probably find one in the first shop you enter. LOL

I love it when US members here (disclosure, I'm American ) tell non US members "Just buy one from a trusted seller." when it has been said on here a gazillion times that they will...

1. Get dinged on taxes and import duty and...

2. Dinged even harder if they get caught trying to sneak one back home. FFS.

Now, back to the OP. Good luck in your quest. You will succeed! All the more sweet when you do..

That might be tough as they are all major Cities. Might be worth coming to London and buying grey as I presume your Dollar translates back nicely now and may be the same as retail for you in the end.
