Bezel and retaining ring stuck together

Hi everyone,

I have an issue that I am hoping someone will have some input on. I have removed a bezel from a Submariner (16803) and surprisingly it came off with the retaining ring stuck to it. Now I don't know how to proceed with separating the two. The insert is brand new and I am reluctant to fiddle with it and damage it.
If anyone has any idea on how to proceed I would really appreciate the help.

I've had this happen before, and you really need to get something in between and pry it off. This either means slightly damaging the bezel itself and then getting it refinished, or messing up the insert, which is a €40 replacement.

I was afraid that would be the case.. being that it is a brand new genuine insert in the bezel.

This will sound crazy - but would some hot shots of steam on one edge give some deflection? Enough to get a thin blade in-between?

hot soapy water in an ultrasonic cleaner will agitate the bezel and insert and it should come free. Give that a try before you cause unnecessary damage

Thank you everyone for the tips.

The warm soap water in the ultrasonic worked. It seemed to loosen the insert just enough I could pry it off without making any damage, and then it was simple enough to separate the bezel and retainer.

That's good news!
