Upon unboxing it, the watch has exceeded all my expectations! The rose color is unique and subtly changes appearance throughout the day. The size feels excellent in rotation with my other daytonas and rolexes

After chatting with a Patek historian, i was surprised to learn only 1,500 of the 3940 were produced in rose gold. I was drawn to the strong Patek DNA in this watch, not only in its aesthetics and mythology, but also in the fact that the 3940 was daily wearer of Mr. Stern himself! Thanks for reading and now the obligatory wristshots !!!!
Very nice, great choice! Congratulations! My grail as well.

Did you also consider white or yellow gold for example?

I’m wondering what the production numbers are for other metals, like white gold and platinum. Most that are for sale seem to be yellow gold. Do you have an idea about estimated production numbers and production timeframe per precious metal?

Looking forward to see some more pics of your watch.

there's a quote from John Reardon, the former International Head of Watches at Christie’s saying "for the price, there is arguably no other watch that encapsulates all that defines Patek Philippe.”

yes you are correct the yellow gold had the highest production numbers- the same source at christie's says 3,500 to 4,000 produced in yellow gold (J). 1,500 produced in rose gold (R). i asked but they didnt give me breakdown for G or P.

yes i did consider yellow gold for quite some time, but once i saw the rose in person there was no escaping it at least for me...... it's very mellow/ understated/ complex of a color that keeps changing throughout the day. totally worth the jump to grab an R but this is just my subjective opinion you will need to see them in person for yourself

on the watch i bought, i have the complete set with the original papers (not archive papers) which is important to me and many other collectors but not to everyone because after all you can't wear the papers

I saw all the 4 metals in person l here in NYC before choosing R....... if you prefer the white metal watches, both are spectacular options, G feels more conservative and P feel very bright and has a heft to it. ultimately all are spectacular watches and you will have to choose for yourself !!!!

Really amazing watch, huge congratulations. I plan to take the plunge as well very soon, but am really stuck with which metal to buy. I just posted a question about rose vs white gold, but for someone that just purchased the watch, did you consider the white gold version? Do you feel like you can wear the rose gold when dressed really casually?

Thanks for your thoughts, and congrats again.

The 36mm size really fits your wrist really well (as it does mine with my 2526).

No exaggeration: the 3940 is the perfect wristwatch. My collection is pretty big. But if I had to sell everything except two, the 3940 and a DJ from my Dad would be the last ones left in the safe.

Beautiful piece, but I wish it had a seconds hand -- either center or small, would be perfect.

I thought similar but don’t miss not having it. A lot to look at and admire. Guess lack of seconds hand doesn’t stop popularity of 5740 or AP 15202 either.
