15500 - Grey or silver/white dial

Wondering what color dial is preferred? I have not seen either color in person. The silver/white appears very vibrant in most photos. The grey can appear pretty flat at times, but seems that if the light hits it just right it looks spectacular. I am also not clear if this “slate grey” dial of the 15500, as it is referred to on the AP website, is the same as the “ruthenium” dial on the 15450/26315. Thanks for your thoughts and wrist shots would be great!

Grey slate for sure. The silver has very strong presence, it feels more like jewelry when under the light. Both are stunning

The dial is definitely silver and not white, and it shines even more when you see it in person than what you’d expect from just seeing the pictures.

The grey is certainly less vibrant, but it’s far from flat.

Personally I feel that the silver dial is more timeless than the grey dial, but I’m sure you’ll be happy with whatever you chose.

It’s silver and not white. There are little groves in the Grande tapisserie pattern that cause the light to reflect in one direction. If its reflected towards you its silver, if its reflected away, that section appears white like the grooves below. The grooves themselves are in some kind of circular pattern which gives a slight sunburst effect because the reflection is not flat, static, but changes through the face of the dial. It’s just a genius dial which no other dial nautilus included come close to equaling (imho).

I had the opportunity to get either and went with grey! Way better Imho!

I love how it changes shades based on lighting!

Silver feels more special, gray more versatile. I went silver, but no wrong choices here. Was also able to see the gray from a marketing piece.

The grey dial goes from shiny stainless steel like appearance to light sunburst grey to flat grey to dark sunburst grey depending on the brightness and angle of light hitting it. You will have to see it in person and not just under showroom lights. Take it outside and look at it under direct sun and indirect sunlight. It is just not possible to show that range in pictures. Maybe high quality video will do justice. I think the pictures on the AP website are highly doctored. That dial does not look anything like that in person.

Both are stunning and you can’t go wrong with either.
I find the silver dial looks bigger than the grey because it stands out more. Silver wasn’t out yet when I got my grey one. I would still opt for the grey now.

And yes, the grey and ruthenium are the same.

that´s the biggest disadvantage! The silver one should have blackened hands otherwise it is really hard to see the time like with any of the other white/silver ROs / ROCs / ROOs

I should not have clicked on this thread....

I have always loved the 15400ST and the white dial was the configuration that hooked me. Then the 15500 was released and I saw all the grey dials, thinking "not bad at all." Then white is back in the mix....
I think a lot of great points were brought up with legibility on the grey, and the pictures from DoctorA make me putting this back on the radar.

What's the wait time for one of these? I am assuming horrible based on the market.... and I haven't dipped into AP....

I don’t think wait time is bad at all if you already have a relationship. Seems 1-1.5 years doable depending on when in the year the start the waiting clock on allocation season so to say.

Also, I think the gray vs white debate is rendered moot when the answer is really blue. :-)

Any truth to the idea that silver is produced in higher numbers than grey and so may be easier to come by (after the initial excitement with it being the new dial). I have read this in a few members comments, but was not sure about it.

I would go with Grey.

I find the white too flat against the backdrop of SS. It looks better on the ROC because you get black sub counter pop. The white will be easier to get though, it was always the less wanted duckling among the 15400 line

I think a lot of people will disagree with this. A flat dial would generally have better readability because of the contrast again the hour markers, but then again I don’t find the white dial flat at all.

On the contrary I find the grey dial to blend in too much with the case and bracelet, and thereby compromising the readability.
