Out of the two, at your age, I’d pick the AP.

If you can put the same amount of money away investment and still purchase the watch then do so. Invest, Invest, Invest.

I bought my gold DD40 with Diamond Baguette in my twenties as well. Enjoy in good health.

As a biased Rolex fan, DD would be my vote.

This is a good point, platinum would seem more suitable.

Honestly, I don’t know how any 22 year old would be in a position to buy either watch, unless they have a trust fund or are the minority wildly successful entrepreneur at such a young age. My daughter is 22, graduated last May with Honors and a double major, is employed and paying for her own doctorate. If she was even interested in watches, would not be putting funds toward this type of purchase. If neither of the above scenarios describe your situation, I would be concerned about saving that money at your stage of life. All said, there’s on question about the AP being vastly superior to that Rolex model.

He's actually too old for Bennihana already at 22.

I wouldn't recommend a Cartier, it is a bit of a fashion watch. There are much better watches than that at a similar price.
Going to watch the Sopranos tonight, first time ever for me, I know far more about his watches than the show.

I think a SS Rolex is a better choice than a Cartier too although it is not a fashion watch, or a simple AP RO.

There will be a lot of trust funders entering the luxury market for all kinds of goods, and now more than ever as the extreme power of SM will convert many from real life introvert to online extrovert.

I make a decent amount while I'm in college reselling on eBay so was hoping to use some of that money to get myself something nice.

Good for you. Please don’t take this the wrong way, but I would really encourage you to start much more modestly until you have a stable career and are financially set. I too have loved the top watch brands for a long time, but worked up very gradually over time and stayed well under my means. I would give the same advice to my young adult son and daughter. While watches are a lot of fun, they don’t replace the peace of mind that comes with long term financial security.

Best quote in this thread “...had it robbed by a delightfully sketchy lady by age 23....” Greatness!
