So i was bored tonight and really bummed the Lakers lost by like 20 points, more bummed that Rudy Fernandez of the Trailblazers was injured..... I am a Lakers fan but i hate seeing injuries...

During the game i figured i would try to put the glidelock clasp off my deep sea on my GMT Master II 16710, the GMT is just such a great watch that it too deserves to have the best oyster clasp available for a Rolex. Makes me want to convert all my Rolexs to brushed oyster with glidelock

on with the pics

so i read here that the deep sea band is 21mm or so, too wide to directly fit on the 16710 so i begin by taking the clasp off, i leave one link on each side.

The swap is very easy, similar to just removing a link, a 1.5mm flat head micro screwdriver does the trick.

Now with the clasp off the deep sea, its time to do the same thing on the oyster band from the 16710, simply remove the clasp and install the glidelock, the fit is perfect.

Now i use the Bergeon 6111 fork tool to reinstall the band on my 16710 (i originally had my oyster band off in lue of my nato band, my 16710 is my beater watch)

And Voila, thats all there is to it. Hardest part is obviously getting the clasp but i figure many speak about doing it so im happy to provide the visuals

haha definitely! its just funny because right when i hit "post" i knew JJ would bust my chops for performing DIY modifications haha but to regain some trust in you, i immediately put the clasps back to normal after taking the pics. haha much love JJ!!!

but back on topic, i think all brushed oyster bands should have this clasp, its that good!!

It looks too long for my wrist. I really got to get into an AD and try on the new deepsea. Assuming they have one…

I still like this one.

Good work Brian, all clasps should be as good as that one.

I wore my Daytona SS at the weekend and noticed that even with the easylink out it was now a bit tight so I will have to move the internal springbar to it's furthest position and that is a pain to do. The DSSD style clasp fixes this problem for good.

As for you JJ, don't make me come over there.....again.

It looks nice but I am a sucker for comfort, and the original bracelet is so much more comfortable IMHO.

what wulda been the best is if he took the DSSD strap and filed "off" a half mm on each side of the SEL and fitted it to his "beater GMT" ! Now "THAT" wulda been "PUNK" !

Completely agree that all professional line models deserve a better clasp Brian.

That's why I swapped the Explorer II clasp for a GMTII-c.

That is also why I will swap the current 16610 clasp for a Glidelock as soon as I get hold of one.

yeah i really liked your post on the explorer with GMTIIc clasp. I loved also how you brushed out the polish. For me, i would love to get an old sea dweller bracelet and install the glidelock for my own GMTIIc.

OR just polish out the center of the glidelock and put it on the GMTIIc

No Brian, that is incorrect.

JJ did once try to put a new style jubillee bracelet on a SS/Platinum Yachtmaster - without success.

IMO it is only a matter of time before he aspires to a NATO.

all of my tools are from the snap-on truck here locally, i tinker with cars for a living and as a hobby so a lot of my tools work with my watches. The only tool i bought specifically for watches is the 6111 burgeon

For bezel swaps and interior trims

For removing and installing links and clasps and small electronics

May i suggest this size snap-on screwdriver 1.5mm , the tips are very fine and the rubber grips help with extra leverage. These screwdrivers are the best i have used as you run little risk or slippage and or chipping the link screws.
