I agree on the combo dial though. Hard to tell what is going on there. It is like a California dial experiment gone sideways. Speaking of which Adam, what do you,think of the Ranger with the Cali dial??

Or did the 40mm phase out the 36mm?

A new movement should have been put inside a brand new watch....not the third iteration of a model IMO

And the dials and batons are horrendous

Love the new DD…the 41mm wore too large for my taste. The 40 should be just right. The dial on the platinum model looks killer.

Sorry to break it to you but that was an appalling investment. If you bought brand new from an AD you've already lost BIGTIME. It'll take decades even before you can break even when you come to sell.

I got my DDII second hand around a third off UK recommended retail price price which I thought was ok? do you think I should have paid less? do you think it will drop sharply in value..

I think im going to flip it and get the platinum Daytona.. I cant see that loosing value in the future..

do you think I should keep or sell my DDII?

The new DD40 is a true masterpiece , perfectly balanced, fantastic upgrade on the end links attachment to the case, president bracelet with ceramic internals, new movement -3 +2. This is the best DD ever without a doubt and will be very hard to improve further.

Hopefully I will be able to purchase one of these in the future, in the meantime I still am very happy with my 18238.

Not sure I understand your logic...you really liked your watch two days ago and now you are going to sell it or trade it because a different model has been released? How does the Basel announcement fundamentally change the ownership experience of the watch that you obviously liked until yesterday morning?

You got a good price so don't worry. As you have the choco dial the new DD choco only has it with diamond markers so I doubt there will be much price pressure on these DDIIs, the most pressure will be on the plat DDII with the nice new dial plus no strange Roman stick numerals imho. Keep the watch unless you truly prefer something else.

Thanks Eric, and on the website they do have the choco dial but now it's with diamond markers, so not for me, and not a fan of the new Romans either so I'm fine with my version. Altho if you went for the new platinum glacier I could easily understand that!

and just look at that wrist shot....DDII will always be an amazing part of the rolex catalogue! gorgeous.

You must have liked the DDII in the first place to buy it, its a pretty expensive watch. Do you prefer the Platinum Daytona? If not then keep your DDII and enjoy it. Every model will eventually be upgraded/discontinued etc

40 is still big...gotta see it in person. For a dressier watch, I definitely wouldn't want to go bigger than my 39mm explorer. I think the 40mm bezel might still be too honking. Gotta see it in person. Cool movement upgrades and cool dials though!

I think the 40mm looks better than the 41mm. It was the bezel on the 41mm that never looked quite right to me, the 40mm looks better but on the Platinum model it still looks a little wide. Also these have the same dial size as the 41mm did and I always thought that was a little off too. Need to see them in person but if I was ever in a position to buy a DD I would get a 36mm it just looks the best proportionally unless you have massive wrists.

As for the value, who knows but I highly doubt it go down. Our dealers and members set the tone for the TRF classifieds there is no official price book on pre-owned pieces.

Same here with the diamond markers. I am hoping they do something more with the dial selection. I am still on the fence for the roman dial. Will need to see it in person. Platinum? Don't know about that. But if you asked me a couple years ago about a solid gold Rolex, I would have probably thought the same thing. Something about this place that changes one's outlook on wathces, especially precious metal ones. In all seriousness, I am not a white gold and platinum fan. Yellow and rose gold for me.

Tried on the DD II yesterday at the AD for fun. They are still offering me the old Canadian MSRP plus a decent discount if I decide to pull the trigger this week. Oh boy.

Ahh... the dilemma:

Buy now and get the discount.... or wait for a bigger discount but risk losing out altogether. In that case, you can always buy DD40 - however I don't think ADs will offer big discount especially with new product.

The thing with DD40 is that it's more subtle than DD2, it looks sleeker. But since you already have DD, I imagine you would want something different. DD40 is closer to DD than DD2.

Thanks for the advice guys.. im happy with my DDII. I was just a bit shocked at the news this week.. I really did not expect it, and was thinking more about getting a nice GMT coke, or submariner, or even a Daytona..... on retrospect I think im being a bit over the top and panicking too much. I love my DDII. its my first rolex and its sentimental.. im a big guy and it is well proportioned for me. anyway.. whatever happens with the value I don't care.. im not selling it or trading it in ever...its for keeps..

I know, the troubles we face on this Forum.

As much as I love the chocolate roman dial on the 218235, I believe I am done with watches, at least for the forseeable future. If I were to add another piece, it would most likely be a dress watch in rose gold with a leather strap, as I do not have any dress watches in my collection.

I agree with you that the DD 40, may be too similar to the DD, but will need to see them in person to decide.

Wow... that looks good on you. Don't worry, if anything your DD2 will increase in value should it be discontinued for real (atm some ppl are saying it's not, and Rolex doesn't say anything yet).
