Gone but not forgotten...

I was wondering if anyone here has lingering regrets about trading/selling any of their pieces. I have been a serial flipper and have had many come and go as I consolidated and moved upward in the supply chain. A little over a year ago I traded 5 watches to get into a brand new PP 5970J. Anyway, in all the watches I have sold there are two or three that I find some regret in doing away with. I miss my PT Day Date with Glacier Stick dial and I miss some of my Royal Oaks, particularly the perpetual calendar even though i got what may be the perfect pc in trade. Anyone here miss some of the ones they let go?

I always tell myself I got rid of them for a reason, so always try to move on to new pieces.

Since I stay in the Rolex family I always have some version of Daytona, GMT and sub anyway

Regret not buying one of the original Royal Oaks for 50% off of the
msrp of $8k at the time. An AD in the Bahamas was discontinuing all his AP.

Wish I didn't sell a Nautilus 3710 and a 16170 with caliber 3186 bought for list from an AD. And a Red Sub and a 5512.

If I dwell on the fact that I've sold some nice pieces..., I wouldn't sleep at night. With that said, I have not sold anything this year- I am keeping to my new resolution to stop selling nice Watches that should stay in my collection. Then again, it's only March..

I sold my 16750 GMT (1984 vintage with boxes and papers and manuals) in 2006, for about $3,500. It hurts to think what I could have sold it for today.

Who revives a 7 year old thread?

I figured I'd add on to something that already exists instead of adding a new one.

Well, here is a shot of my watches...gone but not forgotten.

After a few Panerais (312, 424) I decided to venture into Rolex with this. Cannot recall exactly but I think this was unworn from a gray.

[/url]

It was a cool watch, but started to look around for something else and sold it to help fund one of the first of a few Daytonas. Out of all of the Daytonas I had (YG, Steel, and this one) I actually regret selling this one the most. I loved the blue racing dial. I know it isn't the most popular one but I always got a kick out of it. I ended up unloading this to help fund the YG one.

116528 Daytona: Sick watch! Bought this for myself to celebrate a milestone at work. Got it used, and it had its problems...chrono crapped out now and again. Was able to recover the entire cost of it when I sold.

PAM372: My guilty pleasure.

YG Daytona and 116610LV together

Hulk & 116520 Daytona: Both from gray dealers...Hulk was under retail and the Daytona was likely over retail but I cannot remember what I paid.

The AP was a real piece of work. Bought new from the Boutique, and I had it for 9 months and was in for service THREE TIMES. Sick watch, but what a nightmare!

One more for good measure:

Not pictured: PAM312, OP39 impulse buy on a business trip out of state, a SECOND 372

What madeness....So, what am I left with?

A single 116610LN. Put my name down at my AD for a YG DD40...who knows if that'll happen

Warm regards.

I don't miss any watch that I've sold. They left for a reason...usually for other watches, and I'm very happy with the current collection.

Sold a few I wasn't wearing any longer, no regrets. No point in keeping what I'm not using.

Only one, and my Muse misses it too. A wall clock an AD and I..... after he lost his AD status. Weighs about 30 lbs, and yes the world time function works.

What a great story. Magic. Thanks. Funny how you always get left with a Sub! Any single lesson learnt? For me, it’s go crazy when you can. MOP diamonds TT Daytona. For a man?!? Oh yeah! Part exchanged a Batman to buy it. Drove 600 miles round trip in a day to complete the purchase. Have loved it ever since. Second lesson, after go crazy, is: if it’s not comfortable, let it go. My JC. 126660. Oh, that dial. But…Anyway, great anecdote. Thanks.

My Hulk is the only watch I've ever sold that semi-regret.

Kick myself every day for some of the watches I moved out. Things were different a few years back, and nearly any model was available at discount. I had fun trying new things out, but just want to get back into a 116515 after having it 4 times previously!

Here are a few of them :)

Not exactly a regret.

Back in 2014, I had to sell my first serious watch, which was a Omega Seamaster, to fund my marriage to my wife. Not exact regret but in do miss this watch. I tell my wife this story occasionally to make her feel bad lol.

Back in 2020, needed cash and sold my sub with date. Make some decent profit so no regret. Now I am back and been pushing to buy the new 41mm sub!

Learn my lessons.

I avoid selling my watches now.

I have sold off several these past few years to make room for what I currently have in my rotation listed below, no regrets here. Well maybe one … my 16710 Coke.

Of all the watches I've sold/got rid of, there are 2 that I actually regret.

The wittnauer I bought from ebay on a whim for pretty cheap (a few hundred if I recall) about 7-8 yrs ago because I loved the look. It was in fantastic condition, ran great....it was just a great vintage piece. I ended up selling about a year later (along with most of my other watches) because I felt like I was moving on from watches as a hobby. I thought about replacing it in the last year or so...but they are going for around $3K and have yet to find one that is in a condition as close to mine was.

The 5513 (manufactured year 1987) I ended up trading for a 16570 polar about 2 years ago. I don't regret the trade because I love the 16570. But I regret that I let go of another fine vintage piece.

I've never let go of, or purchased, a watch without thoroughly thinking the move. If it's gone, it's gone for very good reasons. That leaves me with practically zero regrets
