Just wait for the LVc.

Words of wisdom, yet again

If you want a PAM Submersible, it has to be 47mm. Take a look at the 389, which has just been replaced by the 1389. It's titanium so not at all heavy and has a ceramic bezel, which makes it look pretty classy. Also, you should be able to pick one up at a tidy discount now that it's discontinued.

If 47mm isn't your bag for whatever reason, I think you're better off hanging fire until the 682 starts hitting the pre-owned market for significantly less money than MSRP.

Good luck

Disagree. THE submersibles to own are the 44mm 024 SS or 025 Titanium

42mm is not Panerai

47mm is par for course with Panerai. 44mm divers LS 024/25 are iconic

024 and 025 are long discontinued so you're assuming OP wants to buy pre-owned.

If you want to go further down that road, the Bronzo is THE submersible to own.

I love Panerai watches and own a PAM 243. However if buying new, I’d get the Rolex.

As others have said, wait for the PAM to pop up in the secondary market.

This is the right answer.

I have an LVc and would be very happy to add a 682, but I would start with the 116610LV.

There's a great side-by-side pic of the 682 and Sub in the Panerai sub-forum: https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=577750.

As for the 682, I happen to really like it. I think Panerai nailed this smaller size (unlike some of their other recent smaller models), and the submersible design translates well in 42.

I've tried that PAM and I liked it but 42mm is just too big for me so I would go Rolex but only for that reason.

No comparison for me - that Panerai is a hell of an ugly watch.

025 titanium discontinued
024 still in production

Agreed. Bronzo is the sub to own. Than 2 listed above!

Does anyone own both a SubC (I have a SubC Date LN) and this new submersible? I’ve tried on both but curious how they compare after several months of ownership. For sake of argument , assume LV can be had at retail or slightly less (my assumption once Rolex starts shipping SS watches in 2018), which puts it in the same neighborhood of price of the Submersible.

Thanks for any insights/advice/reviews! (And yes I realize there will be bias on TRF but looking for some honest advice!)

For reference here is the submersible on my wrist (forgot to snap a pick of the LV but I’m sure everyone has seen 100s of LV picks already on TRF)

Here is a side by side photo. Hope it helps. Both watches have their own merits. Really depends on what you are looking for. Go for what you like.

Thanks!!
I actually picked up the submersible- got a good deal, and wanted something different from my SubC. Still may get the hulk later when/if they become avail again at ADs and after I see what Baselworld releases Rolex has.

Congratulations! I did something similar, actually flipped my 116610 for the 389....and never looked backed. Already have a 116713 and 116613.....and just got bored of having a similar case......i love the submersibles.....built like a tank...added bonus is that i get plenty more compliments.

The first PAM that I ever saw was one purchased by my brother-in-law. Having both been Rolex and Tudor owners, I thought the same thing. But as I got to appreciate the brand more, they have grown on me quite a bit and I find them to be pretty damn attractive and very well made watches with a superb history behind them. I say, "Give it a chance" maybe they will grow on you too!

I saw your post about the Panerai 682 that you bought 20% retail BNIB. Can I ask where you bought it? I would be interested in the watch at that price. Thx!

Hello, for what's it's worth I had a PAM 682 for a brief period and sold it. I really thought I was going to like the fact that it was a 42 mm dive model. This is coming from someone that has had numerous Panerai ( 305, 243, 317, 275) So I've had several 44mm and a couple 47mm models. The 682 didn't do it for me in the end and I was surprised by that. As far as the sub thing goes I've had a couple ceramic C models, not an LV but I've experienced the case. Don't know if you have been a Panerai guy and what your wrist size is, mine is 7.5" so I was surprised how small I felt the 682 wore and in the end that's why I sold mine. I guess for me it lost something compared to the 243 that I had and really enjoyed. Anyway - if you love a Panerai look and could never pull off a 44mm or 47mm maybe this is the answer. I personally feel this is a reaction by Panerai to a trend towards slightly smaller cases. Good luck!

Nice watch, but Panerai seems to have lost luster with me...I still own two Luminors...but that is it. Hulk or SD43.

Was fortunate to own both at one point. Very different watches but I would have to say the LVc is the better choice.

I tried the pam 682 on my wrist, it actually looks even smaller than a 42mm luminor 1950 case because of the smaller dial.
I would suggest go for the hulk, or wait for a new 44mm submersible model. the 42mm submersible just lacking the panerai DNA.
