Buy or Wait?

Assuming you could get a Sub date or Sub ND right now from an AD at MSRP...

Would you buy now or wait to see if Rolex releases a Sub update (new movement?) at Basel 2018?

I’d buy now as they appear to be rare birds everywhere.

Life's too short to wait. And...even if something earth shattering happens at Basel, so what? When the 116610 came out, did that affect the 16610 any?

Buy now... No guarantees that the Sub will see any changes this year and even then a movement change is no big deal to me. The extra power reserve doesn’t do anything for me as I rotate watches and enjoy winding and setting the time when it rotate in. I am probably in the minority as would actually prefer a manual hand wound movement. And you never know the new movement in the Sub may come with a new price which typically only goes in one direction.

I would buy now if it is what you want! A facelift might convince me to wait but a new movement I can't see wouldn't.

Buy now

If a new one comes out, go on the waiting list

Then buy it

Then sell the one you don't want for £2000 more than you paid

Seems to be how its done

It's a tricky one, usually I'd say wait as Basel is so near and a slight design change too can't be ruled out, but as the market is so fluid at the moment, maybe it's better the devil you know. As been said Rolexes hardly ever seem to fall in price nowadays so minimal risk.

I would buy now when you have the chance as there has been no signal that a new movement will be released.

I mean, you could wait for years for a new movement to come out and miss out on enjoying one for those years.

If that is your personality type, then fine, wait. Otherwise buy what you want and enjoy itnow.

Buy without hesitation. New would be difficult to get in first couple of years and meanwhile previous version would appreciate to match level of new one.

Buy now, any updated models wouldn’t hit the stores until July/August

After Basel, a new model may be difficult to acquire unless you have a relationship with an AD or you are willing to pay premium.

If you happen to be in San Antonio, I saw a sub date in case at the AD.

I'd just buy now. The main functional difference with the 3235 is power reserve. If you're wearing your Sub, that won't be an issue.

You’re in the US.....so firstly never pay msrp, and second, wait for Basel....if something does happen then any remaining older watches become more negotiable not to mention production will have picked back up as will AD inventories. The Sub is the most redundant of Rolex sport watches. Never pay anywhere near retail if you can help it.

Solid recommendations. The vast majority say buy now. I'll see what's available and see if they're willing to go below MSRP...at least so I know where I sit.
