Hi dudes. I'm going to finally buy my first Rolex, and am torn between a used GMT (Pepsi, 16710 - I prefer a newer, cleaner look opposed to vintage) v. a new 41mm Datejust (blue dial, jubilee).

I never thought I would consider a Datejust over a sport watch, but the new 41mm with the jubilee is just gorgeous. With that said, I've always wanted a Pepsi GMT, so it's a true first world problem!

My current collection consists of: Speedy Pro, Nomos Metro Datum Gangreserve, JLC Master Calendar, GO Seventies (three-hander w/ blue dial), IWC Le Petit Prince, Tudor Black Bay (Red - ETA), and a trusty SKX009. I don't need the watch to fill a spot in my collection, but context is always helpful.

Any advice is appreciated, many thanks.

I don't think that you can go wrong with either of them. I was actually first on the market for the DJ41 Blue with flutted and jubilee. However, I ended up buying the GMT BLNR as to me it is much more of an everyday watch. I actually haven't taken it off since I opened it as my Christmas gift. Best of luck with whichever one you decide to go with.

My advice would be try them both on and see which one makes the heart tick a little faster...

Go for the DJ with the Jubi....just amazing.
My advice would be to put both watches on your arm and wait for the "click" you´re going to hear when it is the right one ;)

I have a 1601, which I still cherish, but the new 41 is stunning, especially the 126334 with the blue dial. On the flip side, I just got a GMT Master 16750.

It will be an itch you have to scratch, you will end up with both!

I'm with Gman11 and duc888: try each one on, and you'll know what to do.

I love them both, but I have to admit being a fan of that DJ with caliber 3235.

From my experience the novelty of wearing an older Rolex fades in comparison to wearing a new one. If I were going after a GMT I'd go after either the BLNR or newest LN.

Both are great choices. That being said, good 16710s are becoming scarce. I'd focus on that one first, you can always get the DJ later on.

If you can find a decent deal on the GMT, that would be my choice.

However, since you have a preference of newer vs. vintage, do you have any interest in the newer 6 digit GMT references?

I have tried on both of them. The problem is, I always like the one I tried on most recently! Whomever said "you will end up with both" is probably correct.

I am going to begin my hunt for a clean, fairly priced, GMT. I agree with the logic that fairly priced, clean 16710s are getting harder to find. The DJ41 will have to wait, but hopefully not for TOO long...

If anyone has suggestions for reputable vintage/used dealers, I'm all ears. I have a lot of choices in the LA area, but options are always good to have. Thanks again!

Try both and pick which one you like more..it’s really personal preference..both are great pieces..
