Advice for 5513?

Hi everyone,

I just joined the Forum and posted an introduction in a previous message.

I have the opportunity to potentially acquire what looks like a 5513 in terrible condition! I would like to have your thoughts about it. I have only one photo where you can see the watch has no bezel nor bracelet. I don't know yet about the movement!

Sounds crazy?

Thanks for your help

Xavier

Depends on the price and things that aren’t shown in the photos. You can find a bezel and bracelet.

The lume looks nice at first glance.

Thanks Dan, the watch is sold at an auction with no target price ;-( Do you mean it easy to find a bezel and bracelet? By the way, your thoughts about this model? 5513 or not? Best

Man this is a risky proposition. I would go see it in person. So many things could go wrong with the watch. U have to go with ur guts feeling here. Sorry can’t help with just one picture that doesn’t show the true conditions of the watch.

I blame it on autoconnect.

5513 is a great submariner, that watch needs a total overhaul , not sure if parts are still available

It looks like a non-serif dial with nicely aged lume but since there is only this photo it is impossible to judge if the dial and the rest of the watch is honest etc..

Well, now that you mention it, the case sort of looks like a PCG case, but the dial looks later. I'm in a bit over my head here though, so hopefully someone with more knowledge will come along soon.

Pointed crown guard case (1960 - 1963).
It should have a gilt dial. Instead it looks to be a tritium serif dial.
A proper insert and bezel will run $3000
A proper rivet bracelet another ~$2000
Someone will buy it, make it period correct, and next you will have a “barn find” “first owner” bullshit post on IG.
