Rolex doesn't make a gold Sub, only the Sub Date.

Perfect Rolex Explorer 2 Gold for Prospector Pete during his mining explorations.

Though I doubt that you can call that a tool watch if that happens.

Well the 216 is the ultimate sports Rolex so I bet it would be damn cool in all gold.

I think it would go against the Explorer marketing. Gold works fine on the GMT master because the aviation world usually doesn't involve climbing mountains etc. Submariners are sorta the same way, a bit less so perhaps. The Explorer is their tough, go anywhere piece.

I dunno, you guys get what I'm saying right?

For me, the explorer 1 would look fantastic in gold. Explorer 2 I'm not so sure.

Not really "seeing" it even if it is the same as a GMT.

Nice try Gus, but it doesn't really look gold... just a reflection from a gold cloth, but it does give an inkling of what it might look like. There must be someone around here with the requisite Photoshop skills.

Unlikely as gold makes a watch quite dressy and the Explorer is the most rugged and adventurous of the sports line up.

yeah, but the all gold sub has history to it, on boats with commercial divers, the divers get SS TT or full gold dependent on rank on the ships. and theres been solid gold subs and gmts since the 60's.

What....are you kidding? That would totally ruin this watch! Now, if it had say...a full Rainbow (like the Daytona) along with the diamonds, then that would be one hot ticket!

Well get ready for PCL's on an all gold EXPII. That would be a deal breaker for me. I don't feel all gold would reduce it's durability in any way. Personally I think an all YG version would look great - provided there are NO PCL's...Bet they would be a great seller.

I'm actually surprised it hasn't happened yet... The sub was once the ultimate tool watch and to the eyes of some it may still be the case but now it's in solid gold with diamonds... If it could happen to the sub, it could happen to any model.

Explorer II is a tough sports watch for guys who are getting out and doing something: not for posers or wannabees. Gold model would not be appropriate.

I kind of the like the Explorer II in SS only, however I'd like to see what it would look at in TT or solid gold. Probably would need to do something about the orange GMT hand.

Attachment 395887in SS!
Well that looks interesting...

But I agree with most other people here though, the Explorer looks better in SS: and probably performs better. If you really want to dress it up, maybe a gold bezel only? Swap out the dial with something else more to your liking?

I like it when people customize their property and make it their own.
