Icon9 Lame Rolex TV commercials

Why are the TV commercials so weak that Rolex does. It seems they could be so much better. Any comments?

there's plenty of rolex commercials and i think they hit the mark when one considers the target they're speaking to and the many, many markets/countries the ads are run in.

There were some during the Canadian Grand Prix.

I think Rolex knows more about marketing than anybody on the planet and whatever they do seems to work just fine.

I have to think if I've seen one. If I have, it may have been during a golf tournament? I can't remember seeing any. That will be something to youtube when I get home from work..

I've never given it much thought.

Most commercials are not-particularly-good...so I've always assumed that Rolex commercials would be similarly not-particularly-good.

The one that was on the Golf Channel this morning with Tiger was awesome!!! I agree with the others, whatever they are doing is working. They are in my opinion one of the most powerful and sought after brands in the world.

I am definitely a fan of Rolex commercials. I don't think I have ever seen one I could call "weak".

In all seriousness, I don't think this commercial is too bad, seems to link the precision of F1 with the precision of rolex.

http://youtu.be/c2-fytAQPwE

Could be worse, they could have sponsored the Daytona 500 NASCAR race. Trying too imagine Darrel Waltrip saying "The Rolex Daytona 500 boogity boogity boogity let's go racing boys" makes me giggle.

Ok so it wasn't in all seriousness.

If one expects product advertising from Rolex, then the current TV line up of ads are weak. But the goal is actually broader - to position the brand/corporate image instead.

As corporate advertising, I believe it is strong with imagery that links the brand to functionality, precision, wealth and status symbol.

The thing I wonder is whether Rolex can outpace the other luxury brands via advertising.

No I don't.

Beginning to wonder why I wear a Rolex since I do not seem to be in their target advertising market?

Rolex, like Rolls Royce and Ferrari and others, doesn't need to advertise

I agree, it's all about product placement. Although I have to say that Rolex doesn't need the biz, and really, the kind of people who watch the Golf and F1 and so forth probably already have one (or two or..)

the ad was funny though

I do like their print ads, esp the latest "Live for Greatness" campaign
