Icon20 Sweeping Hand on my 1978 Sea Dweller

Good morning,
I just wanted to get someones opinion on the sweeping hand on my watch. I had it serviced just over a year ago, and a little while back I noticed that the second hand looked a little amiss. I know that there is supposed to be paint on the part that looks like an open ring now, but is that what happened? Did the paint just fall off of it? I can't locate anything in the watch, so I am not sure when it may have fallen off. Lastly, what are your recommendations about how to fix this issue? Replace the hand, have it repaired, or leave it for character?

Thanks to all!

Scott

My 1680 did the same thing. The old lume compound crumbled into dust on mine...

I'll get it replaced at some point, but it's not a big deal. If it WAS there, and now it's gone, you may want to have it serviced to remove the bits from inside the watch.

If you're sure it was there after the service and you can't see the pieces, then they've likely gone through the date window and are affixing themselves to anything sticky (anywhere there is lubricant).

As Jim said, a service could be a good idea before any damage is done to the movement.

The hands can be relumed fairly easily, but it's best to do all 3 at the same time so they match.....but then they probably won't match the dial.
