1675 input

Hi guys!

My father gave me this 67 Rolex 1675 as a wedding gift a few years back. It was his watch for maybe 20 years before that and he stated he never had it serviced until right before he gave it to me. I knew that these watches are popular but never really gave it much thought until recently reading more and more about them in the forums.

I dropped the watch pretty hard and it started to run erratically so I had the watch serviced in San Francisco about a year ago but now I'm kicking my self after reading about these. During this service, the only part discussed about being changed out was the crystal but I'm assuming over the 50 years other parts have been changed out during services.

Can you all help me with details about the watch and point out some of the things you see such as dial, bezel, hands and anything you see that's off?

David

Dial hands and insert have been changed during service at one time or another

But the case is good, maybe a little polished on the top rt lug and its got a nice even patina. The insert has begun fading and has some dings for personality and looks consistent with the rest of the piece. Its a 1675 that presents well and is an awesome daily.

It also has personal history behind it. If you've read this forum for long enough, the posts with the most responses and continued discussion are those about a watch's story/history. I suggest you have some conversations with your Dad and focus on some moments he remembers regarding the watch, it'll become even more special... My Dad died when I was young but when I wear his 16013 its really great for me, my brother and I trade it every 6mo or so.

Also, don't kick yourself for having the crystal replaced after a good drop, and don't sweat the other changes. Its not like you'll ever sell it.

Thank you, guys! This is a watch I wear just about every day and it will eventually be my sons. This forum has really opened up my eyes on vintage Rolex's.

I've never seen a silver date wheel from 1967 or anywhere close to that era. Correct ones look like the attached photo and are off-white.

Looks like a nice watch considering it is over 50-years-old. It has a few later replacement parts like many other vintage watches. Enjoy the watch David.

I was wondering the same. I know some SD 1665 had silver date wheels but not on 1675 GMT's ...

Very nice watch - Congrats!

A 1.4 mil serial would place it around 1966 and in the Gilt era.

Thank you. When the Watchmaker opened the watch to inspect, he showed me that 67 was on the inside of the backing.. is this normal to have different case back?

The wheel appears to be off white and has an open 6 and 9.

A 1.4m serial is around a 1966 vintage and that's when the transition from gilt to matte occurred for these. Maybe was gilt maybe wasn't. As for your case back I would say your '67 is within reason, IMHO.

So my father called me to look for something he was searching for in his safe and while digging around I came across the old band and bezel!

Now after comparing the bezels, the numbers look so different. Is the bezel on the watch now fake or a real one?

Also, would you all recommend I repair the band then put the band and bezel and back on?

Any idea of the value of the bezel?

David

Nice find and great story! Insert probably worth +$2k to someone, bracelet can be repaired by one of our fellow Forum members named “Rolliworks”. Send him a message, he’ll get you sorted out.

Re: the original insert and bracelet...what a fortunate find! I think you'll be very pleased when you install the proper insert; your 1675 will take on an entirely different look. Also, you can contact Sand Hill Watch Co in the Bay area for your bracelet repair needs.
Enjoy

Lovely insert, extra links can be found & Michael Young or one of Springers sources can rebuild the jubilee bracelet if you want to. 1.4 million should have a gilt dial imho. Nice watch.
