First Rolex Watch - After Over a Year of Lurking

So i just purchased my first Rolex . . . Explorer 1 (No pics yet, its getting shipped out of state to avoid the exorbitant tax rate i would pay in Tx) .
I got it New from the AD with a Hidden Agenda, this was my "Establish a Relationship" purchase.

So the purchase of my First rolex is not as Fascinating or sweet as i always thought it would be . . .but im still waiting for the Watch i "Actually" drool over to come in "Sooner" (From what i gather from the Watch Manager) now that i have "Established" myself as a Valued customer.

An interesting thing though . . . I absolutely wanted the Explorer 1 and looked all over for it a couple months ago (While in Hawaii i nagged every dealer there multiple times a day, along with my local dealer), but this week as i walked into my local dealer and they said "Hey we just got one and no one is waiting for it . . . do you still want one?" . . . I hesitated (Actually for 2 days) until i decided it was the perfect watch for "Establishing a Relationship" getting me higher on a list for a more desired watch. Interesting how as it was readily available and no one was waiting for it, i became slightly less intrigued by the prospect of owning something no one else wanted . . . but as i got past that idea i realized it was something "I Want!" regardless of others thoughts and would be proud to own and wear.

With the above statement said . . . I wait for a BLNR now (Ironic that i dont care what everyone else wants, yet i really want one that everyone else wants.) Hoping after the BLNR purchase i may be able to snag a "Hulk" or PepC .

TL;DR = Bought an Explorer 1 to establish "Relationship" . . . Waiting and am way more excited to get another Watch!!!

Congratulations Greanie! I'm sure it will be as satisfying to own as you imagined. I've just done the same thing on a Tudor GMT - first purchase to establish a relationship -and then hope it will lead to other purchases in the future.

Will look forward to seeing pics when it arrives!

Congrats on the Explorer I !!!

I wouldn't focus too much on the fact that "nobody was waiting for it", since normally the majority of people have questionable taste! :-)

Congratulations. The Explorer 1 is special in its own way. Most confortable of all, for sure. Its beauty lies in its simplicity. It has great provenance too, and its own cult following in the antique references.

Im so excited to get the Explorer 1 . . . I have had a Crush on it for some time, but never actually approached it until now.
It was between this and the Air-King . . .and the Lively Colors are a bit too much for me to want to "Daily-Wear".

Thanks for the positive responses.

I didn’t know they made an Explorer in Gold...

Congrats on the first Rolex. If that one you lust for is any of the “hard-to-get” references, then you’re second Rolex will likely be a PM model to mover your “relationship” to a RELATIONSHIP!

HEYOOOO!!!! I got a call . . . . "We received the Green Dial Submariner and were curious if you were interested in purchasing it?"

Mission Accomplished!
I was really hoping to see a BLNR before the Hulk . . . but this makes me very happy.
Hopefully the BLNR comes in soon as well.

Strangely i thought it would be "The Hulk". Figured i would buy a watch to establish a relationship and ask for a Batman . . . had been a little bit of time, and i called and asked if they could add me to more than one list. They said they would let me know when they get any of the watches i asked to be notified when it was my turn . . . and a short week later i got the call.

I figured as soon as i got the Batman i would wait sometime before getting "Hulk" . . . but since they came in out-of-order, ill take the batman and let one sit in the Safe while i enjoy the other.

Was kind of hoping they would have come in a little more spread out (I say that now and it could be 6 months before i see a "Batman") so i could enjoy them one at a time. We will see what happens.

1GMT .. . 1 Sub . . . 1 Explorer - -- Thats a good collection for me.
Maybe
