I absolutely adore the standard 9300 speedy and am considering re-purchasing it. I think it's a little more versatile then than Dark-Side speedy and it doesn't have the ZR02 :)

So what about the Dark Side is so much cooler than this:

Just curious...
I think a lot of people will turn a bit more sour on the Dark Side of the Moon once they realize how thick it is in person. It sits very high on the wrist.

I really liked the Speedmaster Chrono 9300, but once again, in real life it is just too darn thick. And another aspect of that regular chrono that received criticism is the fact that the two sub-dials are a bit too small and spaced out too far on the dial. If you hone in on that in person it becomes a major distraction. Omega changed that on the Dark Side of Moon, so it looks more balanced.

I also think the DSOM is way over priced. I am hearing $12,000 USD and no discounts because for at least the first year Omega Boutique only. That is really high for a Speedmaster with no gold.

Interesting. I didn't notice that the sub dials had changed on the Dark Side. I do agree that it's a bit thick but its pretty darn comfortable on the wrist. Though after wearing a Big Pilot and AP Diver for a while, maybe my standards for acceptable watch size have changed

The speedmaster and the dark side of the moon make a great combo. You will have both sides of the moon covered.

It's the same thickness as my Panerain233 which I wouldn't call excessive

Compared to what's out there, the DSOM is competitively priced.

well, compared to the speedy pro, it is excessive, IMO. to me, the speedy pro's thinness is part of the design and heritage of the model. but, then again, i'm not a speedy "enthusiast" and i don't own one, so, take these views for whatever they're worth (not much ).

regarding the 233 comparison, i think the 233 sits better on the wrist due to the 9300 speedy sitting too high on the wrist due to the thick display back. plus, the 233 was never anything other than the 233, while the 9300 speedy used to be the speedy pro (see the paragraph above).

so, yeah, i would call it excessive.

True the Pam 233 has a great heritage but the 9300 coaxial speedy has just began its journey in the world of horology and now proudly stands on its own feet. Yes its origins can be traced to the original speedmaster but most watches have some origin. The ceramic Dark Side of the Moon will further cement its position as a new lineage of Omega sports watches

When I first saw the illustrations of it that Omega put out, I couldn't believe how awesome it was. But I then saw a video of it online, and it is way too shiny. Omega's images made it look matte, very bada$$, but it's so shiny in reality that I immediately lost interest.

Of course, it is ceramic, why wouldn't it be shiny? It's just not for me. I'll stick with the 3570.50.

I have a ceramic IWC Top Gun and it has a matt finish...
However, later model IWC Top Gun models went to a gloss ceramic case, and that does seem to take the military/black ops edge off the appearance.

Just changed mine to the 9300 Leather strap. The cordura tends to get dirty/frayed. Also thinks this looks classier.
