Agree but I would still get the speedy, and why not a birth year one to make it a bit special.

There are 'needs' and there are 'another needs.' You already have a fine watch - you probably don't 'need' a Speedmaster unless the Daytona fails you.

But if you just want 'another' great watch - well - then yes! Go for it! And don't give up that Rolex!

Yeah I guess "need" should be in quotes. With a Glashütte Original, I didn't "need" a Portuguese. With a Portuguese, I didn't "need" a Navitimer 01. And with those watches I didn't "need" a Daytona. I guess I'm not very good at assessing need 😉.

I've never thought of a birth year Speedy. I've kept mine to newer ones that look new (not a vintage person generally).

Chronograph

And isn't the fun adding to the collection? And I can't see myself in the AP Royal Oak, PP Nautilus, or Lange Datograph range (although I'd love it, I'd be divorced)

So far:
1. Rolex Daytona 116520
2. IWC Portuguese 3714-45
3. Breitling Navitimer 01 LE
4. Glashütte Original Senator Navigator with Date

In my sights:
1. Omega Speedmaster (??? which one, leaning towards 3750.50)
2. Zenith El Primero (leaning towards 38mm multi-colored dial)

Alternate Possibilities:
1. Panerai 072 (versatile, gets me El Primero but at a higher price than Zenith)
2. JLC Master Chrono (tried but can't bring myself to buy a Squadra Reverso which I know is the iconic JLC)
3. Tag Monaco or Carerra (would most likely be blue-dialed Monaco)

I once owned the moon watch. It was a great piece but delicate in the sense that if you are even remotely tough on your watches, the scratches and maintenance on the crystal will drive you nuts. As much as I like your collection and their watches "looks" and functionality, I absolutely love a particular brand's models' history as well. Your #3 in the "so far" section is one of if not the classic in the chrono world (even more so with Breitling's 01 in house movement) so I guess I will be one of the few dissenters and say pass of the Omega. Good luck.

Here's my Speedy Pro. I changed it up a bit and fit it with a nice camo NATO strap with black PVD hardware that complements the black bezel nicely.

I am one who is much more than "remotely hard" on my watches. Yes, the Hesalite crystal is much more prone to blemishes than sapphire. It sits a little taller than a flat crystal and invariably gets bumped a bit more. However, it is not a significant problem to polish out for 10 minutes once or twice a year.

My Daytona is a major scratch magnet with all its polished brightwork.

I'm really tempted to get the Coaxial 9300. DavidSW has one that I drool over every day.

Go for a nice vintage speedy and throw it on a strap to change it up a bit...

Need? No.

Very little on this entire forum is needed.

Now if you want to own two of the most iconic watches in history then yes.

I have a white dial Daytona and a Speedmaster Professional 357 moonwatch. Love them both, wear them both.

Yes you do. For me the ultimate chronograph is the speedy. The daytona is a good watch but it's not as strong a icon as he speedy.

I had a 16520 creamy patrizzi daytona, as well as my trusty 145.022 68ST speedmaster. The daytona has moved on and the speedmaster has stayed. It feels a lot better on my wrist.

My Daytona is coming back from the spa so it will now compete with my Speedy 9300 for wrist time. My Speedy is just so nice and I love the date. It will be interesting to see how it goes
