Cartier Santos or Bulgari Octo solo tempo?

I’m curious what fellow forum members would choose in my situation. I have a few watches that I love a 16220 that my dad currently wears, a 16600, Grand Seiko SBGJ227, Oris Aquis diver, Seiko Presage blue Enamel for the dress watch. I really want one more to complete my collection and have narrowed it down to two options. The Bulgari Solo tempo 38 mm. And the Cartier Santos large with steel bracelet. (photos are taken from internet). I really split on this and am not committed either way. Just curious what and why you’d choose either.

Cartier Santos on a leather strap is a darn fine looking piece. Prefer it to the metal bracelet, tbh. But the Santos would be my vote.

I was waiting and waiting for some0ne to post a thread on the latest Cartier de Santos watch. So here's my cue call to post some photos of the new bold face of Santos de Cartier and its first celebrity mens' watch ambassador >> Jake Gyllenhaal

Santos for sure, just added the 38mm to my collection recently. Im not a fan of the date window that was added to the new jumbo model.

Octo, even though the Santos XXL is a really nice looking piece, and has the quick change strap mechanism, if you like to swap between bracelet and strap.
The multitude of individually brushed and polished facets makes the Octo so much more appreciated, as well as the bracelet, since the Santos’ with its screw heads looks a bit contrived, just so it ties in with the bezel’s.
Of course, that’s nitpicking, but if that’s what it takes to make a decision, then so be it.

Santos de Cartier gets my vote. Both are nice, I tried them both on and I have to say the Santos de Cartier was much more comfortable on my wrist.

You should just try both on and see which you like more.

Thanks for the responses. I’ll probably head to the ADs this weekend to try them on one last time and just go with my gut. I really am torn. Hopefully an incoming will be forthcoming.

Good luck. Both are stunners. I like the look of the Bulvgari more. However, the Santos bracelet felt so perfect on my wrist. I'd even say it feels better than any other metal strap I've ever tried. So in the end, I would rather get the Santos than the Bulvgari. Plus, the smartlink strap is just plain awesome.

Good luck. Keep us updated.

Cartier simply of classic history and as other has mention, if you are consider the Octo, it has to be the thinness the Finissimo.

I’ll throw in the IWC Ingineur for its angle look aesthetic! Good luck with the decision, both unique in its design for sure.

Update, I went in to try them both on and I really really liked them both and am more confused. But I’ve narrowed it down to the de santos midsize...I thought it looked better on my wrist...anyways, Here’s some wrist shots

The Bulgari blue is amazing in person. It can't be fully appreciated in pictures. Go with the Bulgari.

you speak the truth. It really was awesome in person, the blue is really impressive and i was so tempted to buy it, but I promised to check out the Santos so I did, and became confused even more... I've heard people say the bracelet on the Santos isn't up to par, but holy cow I liked it. The Bracelet on the Octo is next level. Super hard decision.

I have a 6.5" wrist and I tried those exact same models on. I know people have said good things about the Bulvgari bracelet, but for whatever reason, it just wasn't comfortable to me. The experience with the Santos de Cartier mid-size (no date) was the opposite experience for me with its bracelet. It was the most comfortable metal bracelet I have ever tried.

Since they are both comfortable for you, that makes it a tough call...

For what it's worth, I think both look really good on you, but I would give the Santos de Cartier no-date the edge just based on your photos. It just looks more classy. And while the Bulvgari looks more edgy with all of its design elements, I think the Santos de Cartier also looks very masculine due to its industrial-like design.

If it's still an even match at this point, then I would also consider the bonus that the Santos de Cartier come with the leather strap as well as the smartlink design so you can adjust your metal strap and swap out the metal strap to a leather strap in mere seconds. That was a really neat feature when I checked it out upon release.

Good luck making your decision. Keep us posted.

Bvlgari gets my vote. I had the bvlgari bvlgari and it wears great. Saw the solotempo the other day in person and it was great.

I would definitely go for the Santos without the date. It looks great on your wrist and I love the clean dial.
