Here's a grab from a great screensaver Rolex used to have for download, now deleted. It's always been one of my favorite marketing pics for the model.

Cannot agree with you more! I also own a BLNR and brought a HULK home for 48 hours and took it back. Could not bond with it. The BLNR is worn 10% of the time (don't get me wrong, incredible watch too). The SubC is just more my personality.

The black sub is just pure class and elegance. And as you said it can take an absolute beating which I put mine through that includes yard work, working out, fishing, surfing, etc. Some will say its "everywhere" and at certain times and places I may have to agree, but in the general not many people are rolling around with an $8500 time piece on their wrist.

Had a similar experience with owning the previous generation sub for 10 years and moved to the six digit last year. It truly is Rolex SS perfection in my eyes as well . Thank you for sharing a great post.

Thanks for this. You know, I've always found ridiculous the whole thing of the sub being a common watch, maybe it's me and where I live, but DJs and GMTs are a whole lot more common than subs. Plus, I don't really pay much attention to that nonsense, if it where for that, 911s wouldn't sell. To me, as same to you, is finding that right piece, and when you find it, hold on to it and enjoy it. Some may look at my move from the Yachtmaster to the Sub as a "downgrade", but truth is, to me its not.

I hear this all too often also, “that everyone has a Sub" Truth is a lot of watch makers have Copied THE Rolex SUB I,e. Homages, so at a glance that Invicta or that Steinhart looks like a SUB. All in all I see in reality, For every real Rolex I see I see 350 Invictas or homages!

My girlfriend's dad has a "gold" Invicta that easily passes for a Yacht-Master at a glance. I've also seen some Invictas in some lower-end jewelers' cases, and the degree to which they copy Rolex is shameless. (To my g/f's dad's credit, he doesn't know watches at all, so he really doesn't know he's wearing a hacky ripoff.)

It's deleted cause the blue reflection on the bezel looks like BLNR

I enjoy reading you, I share everything you write and I congratulate you for your purchase. My grail is my beloved 116610LN like yours. I'm one of those who thinks it's the best Sub to date. A picture of mine:
