Visit to Wempe (AD) in NYC....

I was in NYC today on 5th Ave and stopped in at the Wempe/Rolex AD. They carry other watch brands suck as Cartier, Patek, IWC, etc. A beautiful store, lots of sales help and a glass of champagne if you want it!

They have a dedicated Rolex Boutique. I have never seen so many Rolex watches in a store. The only SS sport models were 1 Milguass (blue dial) and 1 AirKing, that was it in SS. In PM I remember a Yachmaster II, and perhaps one or two others, yes a 116710BLRO in the window. If you want a DJ, they have tons of womens and mens sizes.

Many open spaces on the display for watches sold and not replenished. I did not ask about when they would get a replenishment because I did not want to hear the sales BS.

I was able to pick up another copy of the Rolex Magazine, Issue 7.

Wempe on 5th Ave is certainly one of my favorite watch dealers. The staff are dynamite there.

I didn't have a great experience when I went in December 2016. My ex and I were basically ignored by sales staff - no one acknowledged us when we walked in and when it became obvious my ex was interested in trying on a watch, we had to ask the salesperson standing 3 feet away from us for some help. Once he pulled the watch out of the case, he just handed it to her and said nothing - didn't bother explain the model, brand, features, etc., just stood there in silence.

My ex also happened to be wearing my B&M Riviera Magnum and when she took it off to try the watch on, the salesperson picked up my B&M and handed it to another sales rep to remark that it was designed by Gerald Genta - I didn't say anything to him at the time but did think it was rude of him to take it upon himself grab my watch and hand it to his colleague without asking for hers or my permission, especially after being so indifferent and dismissive throughout the entire interaction.

The staff in the Rolex boutique were far friendlier but I wouldn't purchase anything from Wempe based on that interaction. Plenty of other retailers to choose from with friendlier salespeople.

I was there in December in the middle of a rainstorm nonetheless. I came in soaking and they actually couldn’t have been nicer. I looked at JLC mostly. The sales staff seemed to be really friendly that day, but I’ve heard some negative stories about Wempe as well. Quite honestly though, they are better educated on the product than most shopping mall ADs or others for that matter at least. At least you can have a conversation about watches and actual horology. Try talking about specifics of movements with the average AD sometime. They’ll look like a deer in headlights

I get they're selling luxury non-necessities including Patek and Rolex, but I've found it to be a bit stuffy in there for my liking.

Would you buy a Rolex at a Duane Reade? Sure would if it was authentic and priced right.

I really like that Location. They did a fast repair on my wife's Baume and Mercier as we were in town for limited time and didn't charge. Lots of nice watches to see.

I like the top floor as they have a preowned case. Never anything I want but it’s a fun stroll down the line.

I love going in there, only a few blocks from my office. The general staff can be a bit hit or miss, but the people I've dealt with in the Rolex section have been top notch.
