Keep it as a beater (ugh) and move on to the next one...That is tough and I'm sure difficult to accept right when it happened. Good luck to you...

Every watch has a story behind it. Yours is a family bond. It will drive me nuttz though. However, you'll be reminded of your love ones every time you look at it.

You could use it as a excuse to get another Rolex. Good luck with that though. Lol.

Reminds me of when my 4 year old daughter set down a wet cup of water on a gorgeous antique massive wood dining table that had been in the family for decades. Ruined the whole thing. Took me a few years to actually begin to laugh about that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Uff da -- sorry to see that. Your experience teaches an unfortunate but true lesson. The safest place for our fine watches is gonna be on our wrist. The risk of damage while exposing them to work or activity is generally less than the risks of taking it off: a fumble, drop, mishandling, loss, theft or other mishap. Oh well, what's done is done, and you've got the right attitude about it. Chalk it up to experience. Cheers!

Doesn’t look bad to me. Forget it until the next service when they’ll buff it out.

Like the final lines of Keats's poem.. Of which there is debate about whether they add beauty to the overall work, many seem to be debating that scratches add beauty to the form of a watch. |

Also thanks for being a good sport about the title. It got a little distasteful but that’s the internet for you. |

Could have been so much worse. That it still works coming away with a tiny pockmark is very cool. Be happy at the sheer badassery.

It's not too bad but if your losing sleep over it have the repair done by a laser welding from a proffessional. No polishing is going to fix and fill that in it will only make it worse.

Maybe either the wife or the daughter dropped it an neither will take responsibility?

This would bother me for a week, maybe a month. That concern would fade, and I’d probably get used to it or forget altogether. Like others have said, I’d suggest leaving it for a few months and see how that treats you.

Keep it as is and point to it every time you want something of them. Let it hang over their head some years so that you can use it to get your way as you seem pretty outnumbered by the girls/ladies in your house.

An interesting tale and a testament to what can happen despite the very best of intentions. It's life really
Anyway, it won't be the last time something happens to it. Besides, one day you may decide to get a new Mid-case for it decades down the track |

OMG....here we go again with this absolutely stupid reasoning on here regarding scratches and polishing.
Would you be OK with your rear quarter panel dented in on your $100k car? I mean, it builds character. It doesn't build any "character." It's a friggin watch, not a person with feelings. You paid $10k for the watch....whether you think so or not, it's a piece of jewelry just as much (or else we would all be suckers paying anymore than $10 for a watch). Normal desk diving scratches....that stuff does happen and is nothing to fret about (just like swirl marks will happen on a car.....not a reason to get the car repainted). However, actual DAMAGE should be fixed. A good polish by someone who knows what they are doing will probably erase 95-100% of the damage...for like $100. I'd think it was odd if I saw someone with a beat-up $10k watch....I'd either think he was too irresponsible to take care of nice things, too rich to care about stuff like that, or he didn't care because it was fake anyways. I get if you went rock climbing in the Andes and got a little scrape....cool story. I don't see what character is built because your daughter accidentally dropped it. I've always felt this mindset of people on here regarding this is really odd....but these are the same people who think polishing it will melt 85% of the metal on your watch. It's not only insane but not backed up by any actual evidence. Next, ask the people who replied on this thread who would pay the same amount for that watch with that damage as one without damage? Not one would do so. Not trying to be a dick to others.....but this was an accidental drop that likely could easily be fixed....it bothers OP enough to post. I think he should just get it fixed and be glad the damage was not worse. |

I think he dropped it but did not want to take the blame so he wrote wife/daughter in debate of who to blame as he typed out the post, BUT, he forgot to delete one of them before posting.
Regardless, its minor and no broke crystal. Wear the dang thing and look at it as adding to the sentimental value when you do think about it. |

I have plenty of scratches and dings on my watches. As long as the crystal is fine and it keeps time I wouldn't mind it at all.

The real lesson here is that the watch is always safer on your wrist. Work away in the barn, your Sub can handle it.
The nick is not that bad at all and will become a great story you and your family can talk about for years to come. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wife/ daughter drop Sub on Concrete

When she's ready for a service send to LAWW or rolliworks for a laser weld. No need to grind down your watch to the level of the ding. It isn't too bad by the way. I'd wait it out.

I put a nice flat spot on my crown guard from a stripper pole.
Turns out they are pretty tough stainless also.!!! Thought about laser welding but never got round to it. Now it’s just a ding. It’ll stay most likely and you’ll Not think about yours in a few weeks/months. |
