San Diego.

Hi guys,

Will be visiting Dan Diego in about two weeks, Would like to hear from San Diego Members or those who visit the city often your recommendations on which area to stay.

Traveling with two kids and will have a car ( will drive from LA) , been checking La Jolla , Bayside, Old Town and Dowtown.

Any recommendations are welcome.

TIA.

San Diego is a wonderful place to visit. La Jolla & Del Mar are great places to stay - close enough to downtown and anything else you might want to do but not in the middle of tourist hotels and the Gaslamp.

I'm a North County SD guy though so somewhat biased.

Because you have the kiddos, I would say PB / Mission Beach. While it will be a bit cold for the beach / ocean play, it will still be good to be able to stay near Sea World and Belmont Park.

Everything in SD is within 15 min of everything, so you really can't go wrong staying DT / PB / La Jolla. I would definitely take the kiddos to Balboa Park, especially during the holidays, and Little Italy. Waterfront Park is great too.

I second mission beach. Great access to seaworld, Belmont park, Mission Bay boardwalk, and the beach. Very relaxing place too.

I live in La Jolla, right down town. PM me when you are here and I will meet you if you want. If not, walk up and down Prospect St. Across from the restaurant Eddie V's there are some watch ADs for Patek and Cartier, etc. C, J. Charles is the Patek AD and Westime sells lots of other luxury brands. The Rolex dealers are in the local malls.

Took my nieces to San Diego zoo, they loved it so much. Also the SCRIPPS research center is cheap and fun for kids. Couldn’t tell ya a good place to stay because I just crash my mom’s house in LA

Marriott Marquis has great pools, walk to Seaport Village, walk to Coronado ferry. Walk to USS Midway and the other floating museums.

Or Oceanside for the harbor and Legoland.

Thanks you Jhon for the offer very kind of your part .
I'm narrowing down my options to la Jolla ,Del Mar or Mission Valley, If they're close to all attractions I'd rather be in a quieter area.

Definitely not Mission Valley. SD is a beautiful city to be seen and experienced from the coast. I still recommend Coronado, especially with children. Of those 3 I'd pick La Jolla over Del Mar just because it's closer to San Diego and The Cove is one of the prettiest parts of the area.

If you like Holiday lights be sure to visit the Mormon Temple near La Jolla. You can walk the grounds in the evening and EVERY tree is decorated.

It's not a religious thing (at least to me), just a beautiful sight to see.

If your kids are interested, Legoland is on the drive down.

In the middle of December, the beach doesn’t have the same draw as in warmer months, but still a highlight of SD. Coronado is a nice spot with beach access as well as a quick ferry/drive over to downtown. PB is not the most kid friendly spot, so I would recommend La Jolla or Mission Beach instead.

And Phil’s BBQ is overrated. Good, but not worth waiting in line for an hour like some do.

Agree about Phil's. Grand Ole BBQ y Asado is my favorite.

Thanks guys ,I'll visit the beach but is not the main purpose of the trip so staying on the beach is not a must for me because it's Dec and I come from a warm weather with beaches so not a biggie for me , I'd rather stay in a nice area that's close to all the attractions.

Grand Ole BBQ sounds like a nice place read about Phills but after reading your post sounds like it might be a tourist trap.

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat at Phil's or Grand Ole BBQ - there's plenty of places to eat in Little Italy, DT (including North Park) or the beaches for that matter.
