Thoughts on the Submersible Carbotech 42mm?

Hi everyone

I love the PAM 00960 but there are a few things that bother me:
- the insanely high retail price for a modified ValFleurier movement
- the humongous box (Blancpain Fifty Fathoms style)
- the many ribs on the rubber strap - but that can be changed

Also, how durable is carbotech really? I know it’s lightweight and much stronger than steel, but does it lose shape like carbon fiber does over time?

Appreciate your views.

Tried it on.
Way too small for my 7" wrist.
While I don't have one myself (yet) few friends have been wearing them for years without any issues or degradation to the case,

Btw, you can't look at Pam and state that "it's VF movement" so it must be overpriced. This watch is lot more than the sum of it's parts!

i tried on both the 960(42mm) and the 1616(47mm) and finally chose the 1616. the 960 just lack the panerai DNA. the black case, black dial and thick bezel(hence smaller dial size) make the watch wears even smaller. i also take into consideration the 1616 has the inhouse movement. though i think my sweet spot should be 44mm, hope they can release a new 44mm submersible this year.

I did the same thing. And agree about 44mm!

even in the HK boutique they display the 1616 and 960 as a couple's watch. the 42mm 960 with the pink leather strap is
certainly aiming for the women market.

I have the 1616 and I absolutely love it.

The blue 3D lume is incredible. The case feels amazing. It's not too light, either, though not heavy at all. I am rough on my Panerais and this one has never ever ever gotten any blemishes thanks to the Carbotech.

I love Carbotech at this point.

Carbotech is a next level watch making material. I own them all. Carbotech is that much better and worth the up cost of admission. That said I am a 44mm Panerai fan and my Pam 661 is perfecto on my wrist.

As others have said, Panerai really needs to put out a 44mm Submersible (with the 1950s case). The 42mm Submersibles are certainly nice and appealing some someone with a smaller wrist, but I think the "industrial" look of the Submersible really shines in an oversized case at 44mm+. I am also a sucker for a traditional look and aside from one model (PAM243?) the Luminor 1950 Submersibles are typically 47mm.

It seems to be that Panerai wants to deliberately limit particular cases to particular sizes with the bulk of the traditional Luminor cases being 44mm and thus eliminating that as an option for the Submersible. That said, it leaves a drastic size difference between models when searching for a true diver.

Absolutely agree with needing some submersible options at 44. I would snag up a submersible carbotech in 44 as fast as I could find one if they offered it. I’ve discussed with some folks at several Panerai boutiques and I get the same response; not in the panerai DNA at 44. You know Italians can be stubborn folks...I know. I am one:)

The outhouse movement would bother me too

Not a big fan of the 42mm version either, the dial looks cramped.

If the asian market wouldn´t have become that dominante in the last couple of years it wouldn´t even exist.

Reviving this thread.

Has anyone any more feedback on the PAM00960 based on ownership?
