Different paths to a SD43 - or not

Hi all I've been going back and forth on the bluesy vs SD43 as my next piece and have decided the SD43 would be a better fit for my style/preferences (even though I think the bluesy is stunning). Now the question is, how do I get there without outlaying new money (so via trade/collection moves). As far as I can tell, here are my options:

(1) trade hulk
(2) trade BLNR oyster
(3) trade ND sub plus seamaster or superocean
(4) trade SD4K
(5) trade speedmaster, explorer 1, seamaster, superocean

Those are all of the watches I own.

The other option is to stand pat, wait, enjoy what I have, etc.

I posted a less focused but similar question in an older thread and was told to get rid of the seamaster and superocean (I've got no issue with this but this gets me nowhere near the SD43, so it's only part of a pathway).

Anyone with grandmaster collection wisdom who can help me out of this "dilemma"? Occupying way more of my mind than it should be.

I’d do option 3....I know that leaves you with two SD, but if going to get rid of a diver, I’d get rid of the one that’d be easier to replace if regrets. Also gives you your diver with cyclops and bigger size.

You dont need a ND Sub and SD4K in my honest opinion. And then the question, do you need two Seadwellers? With that said, I would do Option 3.

I have the SD43 and highly recommend it. I too was deciding between it and a Bluesy.

I would do Option #3

Keep 1-4, trade in the watches under 5. The SD43 is a great watch. Just my opinion.

I'd go option 5 immediately but that's just my preference.

I'm just wondering how many divers you want. I like Omega so I wouldn't get rid of them since they're different. Breitling is kind of whatever to me.

Maybe a variation of 3+4. Trade the SD4K and Breitling. Then you have a smaller ND diver and the SD43. At least they're a bit more different.

Thanks all for the great inputs! In terms of what I am least resistant to part with, I'd have to say it is option 5. But then as rolexjoe points out I would wind up with diver city as a collection (plus the batman). I'd lose my one chronograph, and I'd lose my explorer WG numeral which I feel can function as a dress up watch for me. And I lose blue on the outgoing divers. So a lot of variety lost for one watch. Option 3 is the other contender but then I like my ND sub better than any of the pieces in option 5 - by a lot. So tough spot. Guess I have to adopt the can't have it all mentality and sacrifice something!

Yeah now I think option 5 for sure if I do it. Now I'm just deciding between option 5 versus stand pat. Stand pat is the last line of defense - any arguments for doing so?

I would have done #3, if it was me, but #5 is a solid choice. Whatever leaves you happiest is the best one.

My argument against standing pat is that Sea-Dwellers are fantastic watches and the SD43 is a joy to wear.

Here are my thoughts:
(1) trade hulk - No. This is an iconic piece that is different than almost any other watch out there. Sure it's a sub, but it's green! Too difficult to replace.

(2) trade BLNR oyster - No. This will become a classic. Too expensive to replace and can be dressed up or down.

(3) trade ND sub plus superocean - Yes. Both pieces are easily replaceable.

(4) trade SD4K -- No. This will become a classic with such a small run and expensive to replace if you can find a nice example for sale.

(5) trade speedmaster, explorer 1, seamaster, superocean - No. You are trading too much diversity. The Speedmaster and Explorer are both awesome, I personally love the Seamaster and would never get rid of mine. It is just not worth enough in a trade. ( I own all three and they are not going anywhere.)

Good luck in your decision.

I’d trade the SD4K. Having both would be redundant IMO

I'd day option 3 or maybe 5, but don't trade the Speedy. I had a similar dilemma when I was trading into my CHNR where I briefly considered selling the Milgauss and Speedy. Deciding to fork out a bit more cash and only sell the Milgauss.

The fact is the Speedy is so much watch for the money. Unless it's life or death (in which case watches shouldn't be a priority regardless) whatever you would get for the Speedy would be fairly trivial compared to the inherent value of one of the most beautiful, iconic watches of all time. You won't miss the money as much as the Speedy.

...of course I'm assuming this is the hesalite moonwatch. If it's one of the many limited editions that fetch a pretty penny on the secondary market then it may be worth it to sell. Either way I think this is good advice for anyone considering selling their Speedmaster.

Update: I couldn't/can't bring myself to do any of the options.

The closest I came was packaging the ND sub and the seamaster toward it but actually the math wasn't so friendly on that given going grey prices, so it didn't even get me that close. And AD route I could try but you know how that goes. I've gotten some at ADs but it is increasingly a battle and I'm not sure I'm up for it again.

I also realized I might be pining after the SD43 because I love my SD4K, so I am trying to recapture the magic around a watch I've already got - anyone ever done that? I worried that if I bring in the SD43, it would create competition with the SD4k.

I could not part with the speedmaster or the explorer knowing I was certain to reacquire in the future but just pay more to do so.

In the end I wound up opting for a white 39mm OP. Seems kind of random as it wasn't something I posted about, but it was on my radar (obviously I like no date watches) and I realized I've got no white watch in my collection. So I opted for my diversity. And I also didn't have to pay a mark up over MSRP.

I think I made the right move here, but who the heck knows!
