"preowned" aka, they took the stickers off and maybe put an intentional scuff on the clasp to show "wear".

What's stopping ADs from doing this with every model that's selling above MSRP in the 2nd hand market?

Why shouldn’t an AD be allowed to take a watch in a trade for a new one that a client prefers?

Of course it does require trust on behalf of other clients that the trade was done scrupulously, but trust should be there anyway if one plans to spend several thousand dollars on an accessory....

I know ADs sell "pre-owned" mostly just 1 month owned watches to their customers. Some of them have trade-in programs. For example, if you have your just owned black sub to trade in for a new green sub, they ask you to pay for a premium.

Short answer is : supply and demand or market value which is of course determined by how much customers want or are willing to to pay for something. That is the reason most products devaluate 5 minutes after the purchase, but some due to scarcity or high demand actually increase in value.

Like stated above. What’s stopping ADs from being unethical If pre owned are going for double retail? I tell you, nothing!

You know exactly why! ADs want in on the big profit secondary market.

My AD recently started selling pre-owned. They had always taken trades but moved them on to a third party or sold them an a site like Chrono24, I don't know. But now they can cash in on the secondary market since they have virtually nothing but TT and PM DJ's in the new section.

One of my local ADs just started selling pre-owned too. They put the pre-owned case right up front, best spot in the whole store. SS Daytona $25k, lol.

I see nothing wrong with it if they are truly a legit trade in, but if they are converting new stock, I would think they should be in danger of loosing their AD status.

I would have to think that the extra money they would make on the few watches they would do this with is in no way worth losing their Rolex status especially after the substantial upgrade invest Rolex has made most ADs do.

I remember back about 2005 at the Sheraton on the Falls at Niagara, there was a jeweler in the hotel. Can't remember if they were an AD. But they seen my 8 year old 16613 Sub and offered me 5K for it on the spot which was the same price I paid new in '97. I politely declined the offer. This was way before the current madness going on now.

I hear you. Tourneau has a black ceramic Daytona “preowned” $25k.

For my BLNR, they offered $15k towards the trade. Still no thanks.

That Daytona though is a handsome watch.

I am fine with this so long as the AD's are buying the preowned watch ABOVE MSRP as well.

I suspect they may hold back their MSRP stock to move their 2xMSRP stock.
