Submariner Band Question

What is your choice of band for a vintage submariner? Metal, leather, rubber or other material like Nylon.

Here we go again. Must be an AI. Starting thread after thread with vague open-ended questions and then never participating.

I keep my 16610 bracelet in good shape by wearing mine on a NATO most of the time.

I prefer nato on the 5508. Steel bracelet on everything else.

Bracelet or seatbelt NATO for me... more often the latter these days, to be honest!

Looks like nato is the most popular choice. Not a big fan of the original bracelet on my 16800. I will do some more research, thanks for your input.

Where did you read that NATOs are the most popular choice?

To each their own, but I can't see wearing a Sub on a NATO strap. I went through a period when I bought and tried all kinds of them, but I found them all ugly and inconvenient. I have dozens in a zip-lock that I'll never use. The only good thing about them is that they're dirt cheap, so if you want to try one, fine ... but don't be stupid enough to pay more than $15 for a NATO strap.

Subs are bracelet watches, and Rolex made some fantastic bracelets. If you absolutely need to have a NATO strap, buy a cheap vintage skin-diver and wear it on a NATO.

I wear my 5508 on a Nato most of the time, just comfier and less obtrusive than a bracelet.

I appreciate that, and will try to get used to the bracelet.

The weight balance is way off with a NATO. A bracelet or leather band feels better to me.

I think the bracelet itself is fine, but the clasp is very mediocre . If i can't get used to the original bracelet, I might swap out to a modern bracelet.

Are you referring to the flip-lock clasp on a 93150 bracelet?

No, it's the original clasp on 1680

Well, original 1680 clasps can easily be on a 93150 bracelet. So, maybe picture of what clasp/bracelet you’re referring to?

Your responses are vague and confusing. Earlier you mentioned a 16800. Even if it's a 1680, the bracelet depends on the year; the clasps are similar but not exactly the same. But in any case, it's hard to understand what could be the problem with the clasp unless it is broken, defective, or replaced with something improper. Please clarify and show a photo.

Pretty sure you can post pictures right now. At the very least, what numbers are stamped onto the bracelet?

He can not only post photos (anyone can upload properly sized photos), he can even post links.

Not the best clasp imo, but it is something that I can get used to.

Prefer my 1680 on its 93150 bracelet. Though I did have Rolliworks remove a permanent link to get the right fit

Like we said, can you post the numbers stamped on the link at least?
Does it say 93150 anywhere on it?

This is getting utterly confounding.

He may be trolling us, TBH. It definitely seems that way with all the different threads.

It does have that on the back of the bracelet, and number 593 on the end link

Are you sure you’re using the clasp correctly? And are you certain nothing is wrong with it? 93150 bracelets are very good and very secure bracelets.

I was just looking to see if people use the original bracelet or choose other alternatives. But like I said, I might just need some time to get used to it.

593 end links links would normally be on the Oyster bracelet model 93150 and found on the GMT II 16760 and Submariner 16800.
