Rookie needing help with first Rolex
I am 22 years old and looking to buy my first Rolex. When it comes to Rolex watches I basically know nothing.
I am a pretty traditional guy and want something that can work as a casual and dressy watch. I don't think I want anything too bulky either. Please send me all the suggestions and advice you have, it would be much appreciated. Thanks! |

Welcome to TRF
All sports models should be good for your age. GMT II, Submariner, Seadweller, Explorer. do you have a $$$ for that purchase?

Welcome. What is your budget? I would suggest going to an AD and looking and trying on the ones that peak your interest. As said before, the sport models are probably your best bet at your age.

I am looking to spend $5,000 but if I find something I fall in love with who knows. I have looked a little, and found the explorer and like that one a lot. Where is a good place to get reviews and prices?

Got to the For Sale section of this forum and search out trusted sellers. Look in the who's who section for feedback. Due your research and due diligence on the watch you want and the seller. Good luck an happy searching. I think you'd like the 16710 GMT II.

Can't really go wrong with any of the SS sport models.
Myself would go for either the Submariner or the older style GMT II

Sporty, dressy and not too bulky for $5,000? I would suggest a pre owned DateJust with an Oyster band, M or V serial.

Hello, I too am new to the forums and saw your post. Can you tell me what the difference b/t the M and V serial # is? I was at the AD yesterday and saw the 116244. In your opinion is the jubilee a better bracelet than the oyster or is it personal preference?
Thanks, Thomas |

The M and V is rough timeline on manufacture.....The V being more recent although both do crossover in production! As far as the bracelets,It's a personal choice....Both are great!

You can't go wrong with a DJ, either all SS or SS with WG fluted bezel. Most people prefer the Oyster bracelet if the bezel is not fluted and the Jubilee bracelet if the watch has a fluted bezel.
It's a matter of personal preference. Get what you like.

Welcome to TRF. You are gonna get ALOT of Submariner/ GMT IIc recommendations. Folks on these forums heavily favor those models. Though I certainly like the sub and gmt, I suggest you try on the Rolex Milgauss ( black version). It's classic with just a little pizzaz. I think it's the most gorgeous "sport" model. I think it straddles the line b/w casual and dress very well.
Good luck. |

X2 In reading your opening post, it was the Milgauss that came to mind first as a recommendation for you (despite the fack that I am a sub fan).

I'd recommend a Black Milgauss.

May I recommend the Explorer II in white. It's size, look and price puts it right in your sweet spot. Great casual and formal watch. For best pricing look to the trusted sellers on this site. Good luck with your hunt.

Take your time its a big purchase. Conduct some research, go to the Rolex website, spend some time on the for sale section here, and then go to an AD or 2 and try plenty of them on.
Once your ready and you have found the one that makes you smile you'll feel more confident with your decision. |
