Cancun Ultrajewels experience
I going to Cancun in a couple of months and would like to buy a Rolex whilst out there. I understand that there is an AD called Ultrajewels in Kukulcan Plaza.
Has anyone bought a watch from there recently? What sort of discounts do they offer compared to UK prices? Looking at a Rolex 116613 Submariner two tone sunburst dial. Would a Mexican Rolex affect resale value etc, as a lot grey market sellers 'deals' seem to be on watches sourced from Argentina or Italy. Searched on Google and very old reviews/experiences on there, from 2008. Thanks |

And might I ask what your reply means a Rolex is still a Rolex no matter where its bought from any AD world wide, as they all come from the same factory in Switzerland DO THEY NOT.

All the same. I have one from Andorra most people have not heard much about this small country. It makes no difference to me.

When I went to Cancun in December, I went to Plaza Las Americas. It had an UltraJewels. Nice place with a huge selection. However, they only put out a few pieces on display. Most of their pieces are "in the safe". If you don't see what you are looking for, they will find one very quickly. I walked out with a SS YM II for what I thought would be an 7.5% discount. With the Mexican Taxback program you get the 11% VAT refunded minus a 3.5% processing fee. I was able to get a 1% discount without really trying. Not an awesome deal, but much better then paying the full retail plus tax for the ADs around here.
I also played the honest route and declared the watch. Cost me $500. Oh, and their prices were In Pesos and worked out to be US retail down to the penny. Go figure. Overall a positive experience. |

So not really worth buying on from there then? I can get between 10% and 20% discount in the UK, so may as well buy from here then. The grey market dealers are advertising it with 20% discount so they may move a little more too if asked, but would prefer to buy from an AD for piece of mind. |

Also, unless you mail the box and papers home and wear it on your wrist (which I didn't do), be prepared to pay duties. Last edited by Johnston98; 10 March 2014 at 06:37 AM.. Reason: added comment |
